Ellis J. Ross, 80, Topeka, died Friday, Dec. 29, 1989, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Ross was a teletype operator from 1930 until 1959 for Santa Fe Railway. He later owned and operated Ross TV, repairing radios and television sets until he retired in 1974. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He was stationed in North Africa and India installing and maintaining communications systems in B-29 aircraft.

He was born Oct. 14, 1909, near Belvue, the son of James G. and Ella Watson Raine Ross. He was graduated from Wamego High School in 1925 and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan.

Mr. Ross was a member of University United Methodist Church and a member of Topeka bowling leagues for thirty years. He was married to Mary Ellen Woods Oct. 14, 1947. She survives. A daughter, Carolyn Kay Siegler, died in 1982. Other survivors include a daughter, Anita Whedon, South Beloit, Illinois; a sister, Margaret Anthony, Manhattan; a grandchild, three step-grandchildren, and a step-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Penwell-Gable Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Topeka, Shawnee County Health Agency, 824 Washburn, 66606; or University United Methodist Church, 1621 SW College, 66604.
