Source: taken from a letter from Donald E. Shult, spring 1998

Don says:
"I am enclosing a copy of two postcards Hans wrote to Ernest when Ernest was attending Hedding College in Abingdon, IL. One was dated 1908 and the other was undated. We gave those to two people, one person from the Oakland area and the other from Sweden who was visiting the plains states and happened to be there. The person from Sweden said he would try to translate but that it appeared to be a mix of Swedish and English which he calls Swenglish. He also said the writer was not used to using a pen and was a poor speller. The following translations were done by:

Notes:

  1. Onjon is probably Orion, for Orion, IL.
  2. Oskar is Oscar Andrew Shult.
  3. Dakota is probably correct, and probably refers to Oscar and family, who lived in South Dakota.
  4. Lyde is Lydia Shult
  5. Frank Bodin is Frank Bodeen, Lydia's husband.
