BRIDGET MCMAHON DIED TODAY AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Mrs. Bridget Halloran McMahon, wife of John McMahon of 612 Buckhorn Street, died at her home this morning at 4:15 o'clock after a week's illness with pneumonia. She was a lifelong resident of Ironton and announcement of her passing caused sorrow in countless homes. Mrs. McMahon was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, an neighbor. She was ever interested in her family, friends, church and community and was of the highest ideals. Announcement of her illness last week caused concern to friends but none were prepared for announcement of her death. Mrs. McMahon was born in Ironton on January 31, 1858, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Halloran. She spent all her life in Ironton and was untied in marriage on November 20, 1879, to John McMahon. Their union was a happy one and Mrs. McMahon has cooked forward during recent months, to the coming November. At that time she and Mr. McMahon planned to conduct a celebration of their Golden Wedding anniversary. Ten children were born to this union, five of whom died in infancy. One daughter, Mollie, sacrificed her life to the gods of war, making the supreme sacrifice on October 4, 1918, while employed as a nurse at Camp Jackson, SC. The death of this beloved daughter was a great sorrow to Mr. and Mrs. McMahon, and the latter especially failed perceptibly after that blow. Three months ago., another great blow came to test her staunch heart and she grieved deeply over the sudden death of her beloved grandson, Thomas Ullrich. She was never the same after the second great sorrow of her life and her system was unable to throw off an attack of pneumonia which developed one week ago. Mrs. McMahon, one of Ironton's few Gold Star mothers, was always deeply interested in civic affairs, was well read and was an ardent worker at St. Lawrence church She was president of the Altar and Rosary Society for many years and was a tireless advocate of advancement. Above all she was a mother and wife; an ideal, beloved woman. She is survived by her heartbroken husband and four children; Robert and Clara at home.
