Mystery Ancestors (Page 1)

This picture is in a frame with brown paper on the back. Someone wrote on the back "Taken 1860, Age 23". Above this, in very faint pencil, someone wrote "1837". Under the brown paper is a thick card held in with rusted nails. On the back of this card are some additions done in pounds, shillings and pence. Underneath the thick card is an off-white matte with the picture behind it. Glued across the back of the matte and picture is an old brown envelope which was sent to Mr. Fleming, 35 Millgate, Wigan on November 4, 1936. A halfpenny stamp is on the envelope. The photograph was probably sent by someone in Wigan, Lancashire, probably to Minnie Barton Taylor. Could this be from her sister, Elsie Marian Taylor who perhaps married a Fleming? I'm guessing on this one. The possibility is that this could be Mary Taylor, Minnie's mother? I will be taking this photograph to the Provincial Archives to have a negative made and to see if there is a name on the back of the photograph.

Military gentleman. Don't know who this is. One possibility is John Peck (1861-1952) who did serve as a reserve during the Louis Riel Rebellion. Will have to get a military expert to figure out the uniform and time period.

This was in an envelope marked "Cliff Taylor's family". This was taken in 1887. Is it one of Minnie Barton Taylor's brothers? And if so, which one?

This photograph was taken 50 years later in the same area - really great idea.
