The services of the young people have always been at the disposal of the church, if not always in a permanently organized form. A very flourishing Young People's Society was in existance in 1874-1876, led by Revs. Lanceley and Maxwell, and having among its leading members the Misses Stevenson, the Misses Oldham, Mr. Thomas Smith, the Misses Smith. The Gleaner was the official organ of the society, and an original and clever publication it was. Other societies were formed at intervals in the eighties, and for years a Saturday night prayer-meeting was led principally by the young men, out of which grew the Epworth League.

The Epworth League was formed in 1890. The mottoes were "Look up, Lift up," "For Christ and the Church".

In 1906 the League had on its roll the names of six members who joined the first year, in 1890. The membership in 1906 was 97.
