Meyer & Sargent

Notes

Hermann Heinrich (1) Meyer

Hermann was born at the hired mans house on Macke's Farm (Achmer Nr. 12) in Achmer, Germany in 1813, and lived there as a young man. His occupation is listed as Farmer. He married Anna Maria Langenkamp in 1837, but she left for America without him, probably sometime before 1850. After his wife left, Hermann began seeing Anna Maria Adelheid Thiemann. Between 1850 and 1856, they had three children together, however, they could not get married, as Hermann was still married to Anna Langenkamp. All three children were born in Pente, just south of Bramsche. Finally, in August 1855, Hermann was granted a divorce from Anna Langenkamp. Three years later, on July 29, 1858, Hermann and Anna Thiemann were finally married at St. Martins Kirche in Bramsche, Germany.

Herman and Anna immigrated from Germany in 1882. They landed in New York and traveled to Pierce City, MO by train, then traveled by wagon to Freistatt, Lawrence County, MO. Some children and grandchildren also came along. Hermann passed away only three years later, in 1884, and is buried in the Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery in Freistatt. Some of his Meyer descendants still live in Freistatt today.

We visted Macke's Farm in June, 2002 just north of Achmer, Germany. It is now beautiful country restaurant, called Cafe Harmonie. It is still owned by the Macke family.
