There is some interesting information regarding Moses and Mary's son, John T. Hearne.
The following is found in Gaston Co. Court records.
Court Proceedings Fall Term, 1852:
G.C. Falls bound in the sum of $1000 for his appearance on Monday of the next term to answer a charge of the State against him for grand larceny. Preston Goforth (Who married a Falls woman also), James B. Falls (who married Mary D. Dickson) and James A. Falls went his bond.
Spring Term 1853:
G.C. Falls found guilty..." to be taken to the whipping post and there receive 39 lashes upon his bare back and thereafter be imprisoned in the public jail of Gaston Co. for 4 calender months and stand thereafter committed until the cost of this prosecution be paid...."
Fall Term 1853:
State vs. G.C Falls.
Indictment Grand Larceny.
Defendant G.C. Falls with James B. Falls, John Hearn, and Preston Goforth, bound in the sum of $2500 Jointly and severally for the appearance of defendant G.C. Falls on Monday after the 4th Monday in March a.d. 1854.
All the above people skipped to Sevier County, Arkansas except for John T. Hearn Without paying or going to court, including George C. Falls.
It is left to the imagination to ponder why John Hearne would put up money and property to go the Bond of this G.C. Falls fellow. I have conjectured that he may be a brother-in-law. What ever the relationship it must have been close enough for John Hearne to risk his money and probably farm to ensure this Falls fellow made it to court. It all must have come out all right since John still had his property afterwords.
The children John T. Hearne (Herron) , brother of Joshua Allan were as follows:
Barbara bn. 1837, no other info.
Elisa bn. 1841, no other info.
Pernell F. bn. 1842, d. in Pope Co. ARK.
Enlisted June 12, 1861 at Gaston Co. N.C. as a Pvt. Co. 'H' 23 Reg't North Carolina Infantry (CSA).
Reenlisted as same on the Jan., Feb., Mar., and Apr. 1862 cards.
On May 5, 1862 he was on a casualty list and a report dated May 6, 1862 says he was severely wounded at the battle near Williamsburg, Va.
On an undated card P.S. Herring, Pvt. Co. 'H' 23 Reg't NC Troops appeared as missing in the battles of Wilderness Church, Va., May 2, 1863 and Chanvellorsville, Va. May 3rd 1863 -- called Fredericksburg on a later card.
On May 2, 186? (1863) , P.F. Herron, Pvt in Co. 'H', 23 Reg't NC is listed as a Prisoner of War.
Another card states that the signature of P.F. Herron, Pvt. 23 Reg't, NC Infantry appeared as a signature to a Parole of Prisoners of War, Dated May 3, 1863.
P.F. Herron was taken prisoner at the battle of Gettysburg July 1, 1863 and on July 5th was sent to Fort Delaware where he remained until closure of the War in July of 1865.
He returned home to Gaston County and eventually migrated to Pope County, Arkansas, and settled not far from his uncle Joshua Allen Hearne.
