Ancestral Footprints in the Snow: Hiester Resources
Resources for Hiester Research

There's good news and bads news when it comes to finding resources for our family: the bad news is that there are few resources out there, the good news is that if you find another Hiester, they are almost certainly related!

I've only come across one small published genealogy of the Hiester famly and it doesn't have very much information, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess. There are also a number of short articles in various books and journals, most of which concentrate on Governor Joseph Hiester and his background. I've listed these below, and as time permits, will add transcriptions of those of which I have copies to the Archives section of this site.

Printed Resources
  • A Genealogy of the Hiester Family, V. E. C. Hill, Lebanon, PA: Report Publishing Company, 1903 [Note: This small book is available from Higginson's Books]
  • The Hiester Homestead in Germany, Isaac Hiester, A paper read before the Historical Society March 12, 1907.
  • Governor Joseph Hiester, David M. Gregg, Historical Review of Berks County, July 1938, pp 99-106.
  • The Hiester Family in Pennsylvania, Edward Mitchell, Historical Review of Berks County, Winter 1985-86, pp 26-39.
