Carlisle Family in Michigan

This site is dedicated to the Michigan Carlisle family history. As many of us have found tracing our line has been difficult to say the least.
I hope to ease some of the tension for a few of you.
A Brief History
The Carlisle's are one of only six families permitted to belong to the Family of Bruce because of their blood kinship to the Bruce Kings of Scotland. Sir William Carlisle (Sir William of Carlisle) married King Robert the Bruce's sister, Margaret.
The Family of Bruce is a "FAMILY", not a Clan, per the Chief of Bruce. Clan's are made up of blood kin and non blood families. A non family may have just lived on Clan land for protection of a Clan, in return they would fight for the Clan, etc. Clan's such as Clan Donald has over 100 Septs, most non blood kin. Most all Carlisle's are related, since the surname was founded in the the small area of Carlisle, now in England.

Michigan Carlisle's
The Michigan Carlisle's are of at least two related families that migrated from Massachusetts through Pennsylvania and New York to Michigan between 1790 and 1840. The family from which I descend settled first in Lenawee County then Wright Township in Hillsdale County, Michigan where we find Jabez Carlisle, his wife Catherine, one daughter Catherine and several sons.
Fortunately there only appears to have been one Jabez Carlisle in the United States after 1790 until the birth of one of his sons. It appears that my Jabez Carlisle's parents were Jonathan Carlisle (Carlyle, Carlile) and Elizabeth Huntley. A birth record for Jabez found in West Stockbridge, Berkshire, Mass. as follows

One of his sons Samuel Carlisle pictured above is my Great-great grandfather. The total number of siblings in this family is not yet know however we do know he had at least one sister Catherine (Archer) Carlisle and brothers Jabish, David, George, John, Henry and Ebenezer. The names David, George, John and Ebenezer are prevelant through several Carlisle families including the other branch that also settled in Michigan around Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Antrim Counties.
