John Mohler, 1845
 
    In the name of God, Amen, I, John Mohler of Ephrata Township, in the County of Lancaster, and State of Pennsylvania, Merchant, being well at present, and of sound mind, memory and understanding, (Praised be God for it) but considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty, of the time thereof, and to the end that I may be the better prepared to leave this World, whenever it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and declare this my last will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, first and principally of all; I commend my immortal Soul into the hands of Almighty god, my Creator, hoping for free pardon and remission of all my sins, and to enjoy everlasting happiness in the heavenly kingdom, through Jesus Christ my Savior; my body I commit to the Earth, to be buried in a decent and christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor, herein after named; And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God, to bless me in this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same, as follows, to wit: FIRST It is my will that all my just and lawful debts as shall be by me owing at the time of my decease, together with my funeral expenses and all reasonable costs and charges touching the proving of or other wise concerning this my last will and Testament, shall in the first place by duly paid and satisfied and of my estates and effects as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.  ITEM I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved sister, Elizabeth, intermarried with Michael Ulrich, and to her heirs and assigns, all my personal estate of any kind, quality, or description, whatsoever, subject to the payment of my funeral expenses.  ITEM  I give and bequeath unto my said sister Elizabeth and to her present husband Michael Ulrich, and to the survivor of them, the use, occupation and income, of all that certain Messuage, or Tenement, and piece; parcel or Tract of land, situate in Ephrata Township, in the county of Lancaster, bounded and described by the lines as follows, to wit:  BEGINNING at a stone in the public road leading from Lancaster to Reading, thence by land of Samuel Landes, Esq., South thirty seven degrees and one quarter East, twenty one perches and three tenths of a perch to a post; thence by part of the original tract, South Sixty degrees and one quarter West, ninety three perches and one quarter of a perch to a post in a line of Jacob Bauman's land, thence by the same North forty five degrees and one quarter West, twenty seven perches and eight tenths of a perch, to a post, in the aforesaid road, thence along said road, by Land of the said Samuel Landes, Esq., North sixty three degrees and one half East, ninety seven perches and three quarters of a perch to the place of Beginning.  Containing Fourteen acres and thirty four perches of land, Neat Measure.  (Being part of one hundred and ten acres and one hundred and fifty eight perches.)  together withal and singular, the buildings, improvements, rights, members and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining.  To have, hold, use, occupy and enjoy all the profits and benefits arising therefrom,  during their joint and several lives, and from and after their decease or the Removal of them, I (do give and devise the said adjoining or Tract of Land with all the appurtenances therefore belonging unto my niece, Elizabeth Mohler, daughter of my deceased brother Henry and to her heirs and assigns forever.)     ITEM  It is my will, and I hereby order and direct my herein after named Executor, to proceed to sell by way of public vendue or private contract as soon as conveniently may be after my decease, all the residue and remainder of my Plantation consisting of a Messuage or Tenement, and about Ninety six acres and one hundred and twenty four perches of Land, more or less, together with all the buildings, improvements, and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining in the whole or in parcels for cash or in payments, as he may deem most advantageous for my estate.  And I hereby authorize and empower my herein after named Executor to sign, seal, execute and deliver, good and Lawful deed, or deeds of conveyance for the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof which deed or deeds so given and executed, I acknowledge shall be as valid and effectual in Law as if done by me in my lifetime.  ITEM  It is my will that the proceeds arising on the sale and disposition of my Real Estate shall be paid and divided as following, to wit:  first I direct my Executor to pay therefrom my lawful and bonafide debts, if any, all legal costs and expenses attending the settlement of my estate, from the balance there remaining.  I direct my herein after named Executor to retain the sum of One Hundred dollars One hundred dollars is crossed out
by him to be laid out and expended in a proper and judicious way at such time or times as occasion may require in repairing the Union School house and maintaining the enclosure around the adjacent graveyard at the Union schoolhouse.  ITEM  It is my will that my Executor herein after named, shall pro ---------------a common sandstone with a proper inscription ---------- of my grave, the reasonable expenses attending------- to be paid out of the proceeds of my estate.  ITEM  It is my will that the net balance then remaining shall be equally divided to and amongst my nephews and nieces herein after named; share and share alike, that is to say I give and bequeath unto Elkannon Mohler, one equal Fourteenth share thereof; to Richard Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Jeremiah Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Henry N Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Mary Ann Mohler; one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Allan Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Samuel Mohler ,one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Simon Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to John Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to David Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof to Margaret Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Hannah Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to Lydia Mohler, one other equal fourteenth share thereof; to my deceased sister, Molly's daughter, Eliza, intermarried with Dr. Bare, one other equal fourteenth share thereof, and to their several respective heirs and assigns.
    And lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my Nephew (Samuel Mohler crossed out) John L Mohler, son of my deceased brother Henry Mohler to be the sole Executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills, legacies and bequests; by me heretofore made and declare this and no other to be my last will and testament.  In Witness whereof.  I the said John Mohler have here unto set my hand and seal the first day of September in the year of our Lord, one Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Five.  1845
Signed, sealed, published pronounced and declared, by the Testator to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at this request have subscribed the same as witnesses.
