The Journey
The Bartelts that I am researching come from Priemhausen, Franzfelde, Kreis Naugard. I have been told they were all from Franzfelde yet Familysearch.org has an IGI record of Michael Friedrich Bartelt marrying Wilhemina Marie Gruetzmacher on Dec 8, 1846. I am sure they are/were (they are now property of Poland) close. Wilhemina and Mr. Bartelt (3 different accounts, refer to him as Michael, Wilhelm, and Fred) had 9 children. One of which was Gottlieb F. Bartelt who was born Feb 7, 1847. Gottlieb left Pommern for America in August of 1878 aboard the SS Frisia. He arrived in New York via La Havre. There he made his way to Wisconsin where other German/Prussians had been migrating in hopes of making a life for themselves on their own land. This can be seen by the names of the towns in Marathon County, Stettin, Berlin, Wausua, etc..In a Centennial Association Report, it was noted that he was influenced to farm by August Kickbusch. August Kickbusch seems to have been a crusader for Germans in Wisconsin as he made many trips back to Prussia to bring many people back to Wisconsin.

Let's Buy Some Land and Get Married
On Mar. 8, 1882, Gottlieb purchased 80 ACRES (T30N, R6E) in Berlin Twp from August and Sophie Kamrath for $1,250. On Sept. 14, 1883, Gottlieb married Emma Gralow, daughter of Friedrich A. Gralow and Louise Jahnke. The" religious" rite was officiatedby John Beinert. Gottlieb listed his father as Friedrich Bartelt and his mother as Maria Bartelt at the marriage in Berlin, WI. Emma was German/Lutheran. She came to the United States in 1883 with her parents. On Feb 12, 1900 Gottlieb sells his land for $2200.00 via Quit Claim Deed to Otto Nass.  On March 15, 1900, Gottlieb purchases land (T29N, R6E) from Gary and Wiilhemine Lodholz for $800. In this time, Gottlieb and Emma gave birth to 12 children.   3 of the children moved to Muscatine, Iowa to pursue their dreams.

The following map shows the cities of Priemahusen (Przemocze), Franzfelde (Przypolsko), and
Gross Sabow (Zabowo Szczecin).  Goleniow is the current name of the city of Gollnow, Kreis Naugard.
