44 yrs of age at Springfield,Oh and sworn in at Cincinnati, Oh, on 27 Jan 1864.
Was captured at
Beverly,West Va on 11 Jan 1865 and was held at Richmond, Va until 15 Feb 1865
then he reported to Camp Parole, Md on 15 Feb 1865.
Then he was sent to
Camp Chase, Oh on 19 Feb 1865 then was released from the Army on 21 May 1865.
Was originally
assigned to 44th Reg't Ohio Infantry then it was reorganized as the 8th Reg't
Ohio Cavalry.
When Jonathan and a
few members of his unit was captured by Confederate Forces near Beverly, West Va on 11 Jan 1865 they
where forced to walk through cold streams this is how Jonathan's feet became
frozen. his feet were so badly frozen and was barley able to walk while in
prison and also could barley to hobble about and he was in this condition until
released from prison.
His received a
disability pension starting on 22 May 1865 for $ 6 a month for Frozen Feet.

Riggle
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30
P.M. today in the Fraze funeral home, West Pearl street. Union City. for Mrs.
Caroline Riggle, 85, who died early Saturday at her farm home six miles south
on Union City on the state line. Death followed an illness of more than two
years.
She was the widow of George Riggle, who died
in 1928. the deceased was born at Greenville, O., January 23, 1857. Surviving
are two sisters, Mrs. Ella Woods and Mrs. Ann Blaine both of Union City.
Rev. Earl Lantz of Union City will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenville cemetery.
Friends are being invited to view the remains
at the funeral home before the services today.

Union City Resident, Dies
Mrs. Ella L. Woods, 89, of East Main street,
Union City, died Sunday at 7:05 A.M. Although she had been in failing health
for the past several years her death came unexpectedly.
A life long resident of
the Union City community, she was born on March 16, 1861, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jonathan Crawford, She received her education in Darke county schools
and was married to Ralph A. Woods on October 13, 1886 at Hillgrove. His death
occurred in 1895.
She was the last member of her family. The
only survivors are nieces and nephews.
The body was removed to
Fraze funeral home in Union City where friends may call after 7 P.M. today,
Final rites, in charge of Rev. Earl Lantz, will be held Wednesday at 10 A.M. at
the mortuary .
Burial will be in
Springhill cemetery.

William W. Crawford,
aged 71 years, died at his home on East Main street last night at 11:30 P.M. of
Dropsy.
The deceased was a
retired farmer having moved to Greenville a few years ago after ill health
caused him to leave the farm.
He is survived by five
sons, George, John, Ed, Harry and William who are all residents of Darke
County, He also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Farmer, Mrs. Sarah Scholl, and
Mrs. Ella Vance.
Funeral services will
be held from the East Zion Church , Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Younker's Court.
The last will and testament of William W.
Crawford has been filed for probate and record with Probate Judge Younker.
The will is very brief and, after providing
for the payment of his just debts and funeral expenses, bequeaths the remainder
of his property, real and personal, to his wife. Matilda Crawford, to dispose
of as she see fit, and also names the wife as executrix of the will. to serve
without bond.
The will was made March 10, 1911 and witnessed
by L. H. Wagner and Charles Matthews.

WILLS
Two Additional Wills
Left By Late William W. Crawford Filed For Probate Tuesday Morning - One was
Filed Monday.
It now develops that the late William W.
Crawford, who died last Friday at the home of his son, on East Main street,
left three wills, all of which are now in the hands of Probate Judge Younker.
The first will, dated March 10, 1911, was
filed Monday and left his entire estate to his widow, Matilda Crawford, who has
been separated from her husband for some time, and named her as executrix. The
will was witnessed by Charles Matthews and L. H. Wagner.
Tuesday morning two additional wills were
filed for probate in Judge Younker's court.
The second will, which
was drawn up by Squire John Donavan and A. T. Donavan, provides the George
Crawford, a son, shall be executor of his estate and the property shall be sold
and the proceeds divided equally between his children, Lizzie Farmer, George W.
Crawford, John H. Crawford, Harry Crawford, Edward Crawford, Sarah Scholl, Ella
Vance, Benjamin H. Crawford and William Crawford.
This will was executed and July 31, 1911, and
revoked the first will made by him.
A third will of the decedent was also filed
for probate Tuesday morning by Attorney Edwin C. Wright. this will was executed
on the 15th of February 1919, bequeaths his property to his children mentioned
in the second will and mentions his friend and neighbor, Edwin C. Wright, to be
executor oh his estate and carry out the terms of his will.
This will was witnessed by J. E. Haines and
Ida Irwin, and revokes all former wills made by him. The decedent left a small
estate and by a post- nuptial agreement made between him and his second from
whom he was separated, settled their property rights.

Mary Jane Crawford, aged 51 years, wife of
Wm. Crawford, who resides on the Requarth Pike, two miles east of this city,
died Friday afternoon. The chief cause of death was tuberculosis with which she
had been a suffer for many months, but a few days ago she contracted measles
which hastened the end.
The deceased was a
sister of Charles Westfall of this city and Mrs. Mark who resides in the
Requarth neighborhood. Husband and eight children survive. She was born and
resided all her life in the same neighborhood.
Funeral services Sunday afternoon from the
Klefeker church on the Gettysburg pike, Rev. O. S. Thomas officiating.
Interment in the Klefeker cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Farmer, 85, died at the
Brethren Home here at 4:45 A.M. today following an illness of several weeks. A
native and a lifelong resident of Darke County. Mrs. Farmer had lived at the
Brethren home since the death of her husband Arthur in 1959. She was a member
of the Greenville Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include one brother, William
Crawford of R.R. 1, Greenville, and one sister, Mrs. Roy Vance of R.R. 4,
Greenville. Services will be held at the Miller funeral home at 10 A.M.
Saturday. with the Rev. Clarence Fairbanks officiating. Burial will be in the
Greenville cemetery.

DEAD; RITES HERE
Arthur F. Farmer, 82, a Darke County native
and Greenville area resident of more than a half century, died at 8:15 P.M.
Thursday at Wayne hospital here following a three year illness. Mr. Farmer, who
resided 2 1/2 miles northwest of Greenville on the Jayvilles - St. Johns road,
was engaged in agricultural pursuits for many years and later served as
custodian of St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, near his home.
He had also worked as a custodian at
Greenville cemetery, Surviving are his wife, Lizzie; one sister, Mrs. Nettie
Wright of Stelvideo and nieces and nephews. He and his wife observed their 60th
wedding anniversary last May.
Services will be held at the Miller funeral
home here at two P.M. Monday with the Rev. Philip Lauver officiating . Burial
will be in Greenville cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after
two P.M. Sunday.

Edwin C. Crawford, 54, native and lifelong
resident of Greenville township, died at 12:50 A.M. today at his late home, 417
Gray Avenue, after a weeks illness, Death was attributed to a paralytic stroke.
The deceased who was a member of the East
Zion Reformed church, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Crawford. He
leaves a widow, Esther; three brothers, George W, and Harry Crawford,
Greenville, and William, Ansonia, R. R. 1, and three sisters, Mrs. Arthur
Farmer, and Mrs. Harvey Scholl, both of Greenville and Mrs. Roy Vance, Arcanum,
R. R. 1.
Funeral services will be conducted from St.
Paul's Evangelical and Reformed church, Greenville, at two P.M. Monday with the
Rev. Edgar V. Loucks officiating. Burial will be in Greenville cemetery. After
six o'clock friends may view the remains at the Crawford residence.

Mrs. Crawford, a former Darke countian and
resident of Dayton the last 15 years, died Saturday in Collage Hill hospital,
Dayton, after a six month illness. Surviving are her step-mother , Mrs. Phillip
Huber of Greenville, and four sisters, Mrs Mae Smith of Greenville, Mrs. Bessie
Dickey of Rossburg, Mrs. Mary Hinebrook, of Englewood, Fla., and Mrs. Marie
Rose of Toledo. Her husband, Ed Crawford
died in 1940.

- On Sunday August 3, 1874, at the residence of Mr. Crawford, near Greenville

OBITUARY
Mary Jane Arnold was
born in Darke county, Ohio, on March 21st, 1878 and died at the home of her
parents in Blue Creek township on Dec. 21st, 1899 aged 21 years and 9 months.
She was the daughter of J. H. and Mary Jane
Arnold. The services took place from St. Paul church at 10 o'clock A.M. Dec
23rd. The remains were laid to rest in St. Paul cemetery the funeral services
which were largely attended.
