Charles Fairbairn was the Warden of Victoria County in 1879 and Liberal-Conservative Member of Parliament for South Victoria from 1890 to 1896. 1852 Chas. Fairbairn E 1/2 lot 12 C19 Harvey. Charles was in charge of the Reading Room at Toronto Queen's Park Legislature from 1901 until his death in 1911. He got into a state of bankruptcy at one point in the late 1800's and there is a good deal of correspondence on the subject in the Public Archives.

Alexander Fairbairn served in the Lakefield Volunteers in the call-up which occurred because of the Fenian raids in 1866. His commanding officer was Major Edward Leigh. When he died he was the second last survivor of the men who were called into active service against the Fenian raiders. It said in his obituary (Peterborough Examiner Feb. 28th 1929 p.3) that he had a reputation for hard work, integrity and honesty.
