Hunziker Lenora Dorothy (Sigurdson) Hunziker, age 87, of Litchfield, formerly of St. Louis Park, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield, with Pastor Allen Bjorklund officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM Friday at the Augustana Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at the Grand View Park Cemetery in Hopkins. Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Family prefers memorials to Children's Theatre Company, 2400 3rd Ave S., #B, Minneapolis, MN. Peace be to her memory.

HUNZIKER Jack, 65, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2003 in Del City. Jack was born October 30, 1937 at Drumright, Oklahoma to L.P. and Myrtle Mae (Baker) Hunziker. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Jack, is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Rebekah. Two daughters Lorri and husband Philip Patton and Marla and Jerry White. Four grandchildren, Molli, Charla, Jackie, and Cassie. One great grandchild Lorrin. Three sisters, Carolyn, Sandy, and Jewel. One brother Jerry. Many wonderful nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Portland for Harold E.J. Sprecher, who died Dec. 20 at age 91.

Mr. Sprecher was born Oct. 29, 1911, in Ogden, Iowa. He was a supervisor for Pacific Gas and Electric in Sacramento, Calif., before retiring and moving to Milwaukie in 1976. He was a member of the church. He married Lora Hunziker in 1935; she died in 1964. In 1966, he married Nadine Scherholz; she died in 1994.

Survivors include his son, Kenneth; daughter, Susan Shank; brothers, Eldo, Arnold and Norman; sister, Leone Schmoldt; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

WATERFORD -- Elizabeth A. Hunziker, 71, of Waterford died on July 24, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy with her family by her side. Born in Waterford she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Cahill Ryan and the widow of George W. Hunziker. Mrs. Hunziker was a homemaker and devoted mother. Survivors include two daughters, Debra Gillie of Lansingburgh and Shari Hunziker of Waterford; one son, Mark Hunziker of Waterford; sister Mary Steinhilber of RI; stepchildren, Barbara Normington and Jane Hunziker; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hunziker was predeceased by her son Billy Hunziker, sister, Ruth Gaynor, brothers, John, Benedict, Joseph and Dede Ryan. Funeral services will be held on Monday at a time to be announced from St. Mary's Church in Waterford where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy. Friends are invited and may call at the Frank P. Georgianna Hunziker, 85, of the 900 block of Southeast Belmont Drive, Ankeny, died of complications of surgery Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Hunziker was born in La Cygne, Kan., and had lived in several cities before moving to Ankeny 30 years ago. She was a homemaker and a former rural schoolteacher in Kansas. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Auxiliary and enjoyed vacationing.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold; a daughter, Sue Gibbons of Ankeny; a sister, June Coffin of Independence, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Ankeny Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

DOWAGIAC -- Dorothy C. Hunziker, 98, of Magician Lake, longtime co-owner of Hunziker's Nursery in Niles, died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at the Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis. She was born May 28, 1903, in Chicago to James and Eva Mae (Aldrich) Cummings. She married Alex H. Hunziker in 1926, in Angola. He died Nov. 20, 1973.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Craig (Mary A.) McCoy of Dowagiac; two sons, Jerry A. (Pamela) Hunziker of Niles and James M. Hunziker of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after the funeral service, which will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles. The Rev. Frank Schuster will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.

Mrs. Hunziker moved to Magician Lake in 1914 where she spent summers until 1998. But spent most of her life in Niles.

She was a homemaker but also co-owned the nursery.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a life member of Beta Gamma Epsilon sorority.

Memorials may be given to the Cass County Medical Care Facility.

Rick Hunziker
Rick Hunziker, age 47, a resident of Clear Lake, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2002 at this residence. He was born on September 28, 1954 in Bellingham, the son of Archie and Shirley Martin Hunziker.
He attended Mount Vernon and Burlington High schools and later worked in the Skagit Valley in the food service industry. He enjoyed hiking, climbing and exploring in the mountains. His main goal in life was to have as much fun as possible.
He is survived by his son, Frank Enyeart of Clear Lake; Dad, Herb Laurin, Sr. of Burlington; Sister, Joni Hunziker of Clear Lake; three brothers, Herb Laurin, Jr. of Burlington, David Ruble of West Palm Beach, Florida and Brooks Ruble of Portland; two granddaughters, Grace and Carrie Enyeart of Arlington; six nephews, Jeff Hunziker of Clear Lake, Brooks, Jr., Gene, Tony and Shane Ruble all of Portland and Tory Ruble of Los Angles, CA; great niece, Amy Hunziker of Marysville; and great nephew, Nicholas (St. Nick) Larsen of Marysville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Laurin; father, Archie Hunziker; sister, Joyce Ruble; and brother, Randy Ruble.
A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near La Canner with Pastor Ron Deegan officiating. No public service will be held for Jane Frances (Tiss) Hunziker, 84. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hunziker, who was born in Des Moines, Iowa, died July 25. She was a 48-year resident of Newport.
She moved to Priest River, Idaho, with her family at the age of two and graduated from Priest River High School in 1934. She attended one year at Kinman Business College in Spokane.
In 1937 she married Harry Lewis Hunziker, and the couple owned and operated Hunziker Chevrolet in Newport, where Mrs. Hunziker worked as the bookkeeper. She also worked for the Newport School District.
After her husband's death in 1957, Mrs. Hunziker worked as a bookkeeper for the Washington Department of Social and Health Services. She retired in the mid 1970s.
She was a member of Friends of the Newport Library, the Catholic Church and the quilting club.
Survivors include a son, Bob Hunziker of Spokane; two daughters, Judy Shanholtzer of Fruita, Colo., and Mary Hovey of Priest Lake, Idaho; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Charity in Spokane.

Ruth D. Stoeckhert Hunziker, 69, of Buckingham Springs, a retired secretary for the Council Rock School District, died of cancer Saturday at Holy Redeemer Hospital, Meadowbrook.
She retired in 1996 after 24 years with the district at intermediate schools in Richboro and Holland.
Mrs. Hunziker was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown High School. She lived in Holland for 32 years before moving to Buckingham Springs in 1996.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time at the Jersey Shore.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Albert E. Hunziker; daughter Lynn Chieffo; son Bruce E.; two sisters; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Joseph A. Fluehr 3d Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd., Richboro, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville.

EAST GREENBUSH -- Frederick H. Hunziker, 74, of East Greenbush, died on June 19, 2001 at the Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Frederick and Ethel Bates Hunziker and the husband of the late Sandra Kendrick Hunziker and Ruth Ringer Hunziker of East Greenbush, who survives. Mr. Hunziker was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a plank owner of the USS St. Paul when it was commissioned for World War II and served as the editor of the newsletter for the USS St. Paul Association for the past 10 years. Mr. Hunziker retired from the New York Telephone Company in 1985 after 37 years. He worked both as a lineman and a manager for the Upstate area. Mr. Hunziker was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Rensselaer Elks #2073, the National Ski Patrol, Inc. (National Number Recognition) and the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church. He helped organize the Booster Club for Tamarac High School and was involved with the Brunswick Little League. Fred loved to go boating, play golf and spend time with his grandchildren. Survivors in addition to his wife, include his loving children, Eric D. Hunziker and his wife, Janette of Alameda, CA, Dana H. Coletti and her husband, Gene of Troy and Craig F. Hunziker and his wife, Mary Katherine of Portland, ME; his sister, Marion Hunziker of Troy; grandchildren, Justin Kyle and Alisandra Coletti, Katherine Hunziker, Morgan Snarr and Kyle Wilkinson; stepcildren, Mark Sherman of Chatham, Jay Sherman of Anacordus, WA and Dawn Bucci of Hudson; also survived by several step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, William and Robert Hunziker. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home for Bertha Elizabeth James, who died June 7 at age 84.
Mrs. James was born Bertha Elizabeth Hunziker on July 27, 1916, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She moved to Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School. She worked in the safe deposit section of First National Bank (later First Interstate Bank) until retiring. She married Ted James; he died in 1974.
Survivors include her daughter, Jill Kearns; sister, Andra Henriksen; and two grandchildren.
Interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.

Dena and her husband farmed together in the Washington/Eureka area until 1960 when they moved to Independence, Iowa. She returned to Eureka in 1985.

In Memory Fred Hunziker

Frederick 'Fred' Hunziker, former president of the Idaho Chapter of the Associated General Contractors (AGC), passed away Sept. 16 at the age of 63.

Hunziker was born April 26, 1937 in Boulder, Colo., and moved to Pocatello in 1946. He served in the Marine Corps from 1954-56. He started working in the heavy construction industry for his father shortly after marrying Karen Washington in 1958, in Elko, Nev. Hunziker worked for Bannock Paving for over 20 years. He founded Hunziker Construction in 1983 with brother Bill. They both retired in June 1999.

Hunziker served as president of the Idaho AGC in 1995. He was considered an honest, loyal, trusting person who was very straightforward in his business relationships.

"He was a great leader," said Anne Hoff of the Idaho AGC. "Fred was well-respected in the industry."

His hobbies included racing modified and sprint cars, and watching NASCAR races. He was a member of the Classic Car Club, and also enjoyed a good round of golf.

Hunziker is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters Keely Ann and Kelly Sue Hunziker, son Jeff Hunziker, brother Bill Hunziker, and three grandchildren.

ROANOKE - Marian Ruth Blunier, 83, of Roanoke Apostolic Christian Nursing Home died there at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000.

Born Aug. 28, 1916, in Tremont to Adolph and Lydia Unsicker Hunziker, she married Walter C. Blunier on Feb. 5, 1939, in Congerville. He died April 1, 1997.

Five brothers, one sister and two grandchildren also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Walter (and Faye) of Eureka, Herbert (and Sheryl) of Germantown Hills and Gary (and Cindy) of Little Rock, Ark.; four daughters, Glenna (and Darrel) Lober of Lexington, Judith (and Daniel) Magnuson of Roanoke, Janet (and Randy) Martin of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Lori (and Lee) Ulrich of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church, where services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. The church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be the church cemetery.

ROSEMARY MIMI ALMQUIST, 75, of Linwood Court, a former secretary, died yesterday at home.

She was the wife of Richard Almquist. Mrs. Almquist died on their 39th wedding anniversary. Born in Golden, Ill., a daughter of the late John and Louise (Baumgartin) Hunziker, she had lived in Barrington for 35 years before moving to Warren in 1998.

She had been a secretary to a school principal in Illinois in the 1960s.

Mrs. Almquist was a member of Barrington Congregational Church.

An avid tennis player, she was a member of the Rhode Island Tennis Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge.

Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Babette Carlson of Barrington and Susan Kevan of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, Paul Kevan of Providence; two brothers, Donald Hunziker of New Canaan, Conn., and Floyd Hunziker of Algonac, Mich.; and three sisters, Margaret Lifto of Midford, Ore., Esther Janssen of Golden, Ill., and Mildred ODonnell of Milford, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in Barrington Congregational Church, County Road, Barrington.

He served as a paratrooper with the Unites States Army. Mr. Hunziker was a warehouseman for many years in Menands and most recently worked in the maintenance department of St. Mary's Hospital, Troy. OSKALOOSA -- Roland C. "Drew" Ponder Jr., 75, formerly of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at a Pine Bluff, Ark., nursing home.

Mr. Ponder was a maintenance man for Master Craft Corp. in Lawrence from 1983 until he retired in 1988. He earlier had worked in maintenance for Top of the Gulf Condominiums and Holiday Lodge Motel, both in Panama City, Fla. He invented small devices and was self-employed from 1988 until he became disabled in 1994. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was born Jan. 4, 1926, at Pine Bluff, Ark., the son of Roland C. and Nellie Jennings Ponder Sr. He graduated from high school in Pine Bluff, Ark. He lived in Panama City, Fla., from 1968 until he moved to Oskaloosa in 1981. He moved back to Pine Bluff, Ark., from Oskaloosa in 1998.

Mr. Ponder was a member of First Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark., Larner-Segraves Post No. 36 of the American Legion in Oskaloosa and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1389 in Panama City, Fla.

He married Dorothy Hunziker in Pine Bluff, Ark. They were divorced. He married Arlene M. Premauer Davis in December 1974 at Donaldsville, Ga. She died June 19, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Ricky Ponder, Pine Bluff, Ark.; two stepsons, George Glenn Davis, Oskaloosa, and Otto Michael Davis, Virginia Beach, Va.; two stepdaughters, Linda Stevens, Andalusia, Ala., and Georgianne Davis, Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Clarence "Pier" Ponder, Pine Bluff, Ark.; two sisters , Lucille Williams, Fort Worth, Texas, and Mildred Reichman, Prairie Village; five stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Laurence retired as service manager from Raytown Dodge. Mr. and Mrs. Aldridge were season ticket holders for the Kansas City Chiefs for over 25 years. He was an avid gardener. Mr. Aldridge was preceded in death by his only brother, Merle Aldridge in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Aldridge; two nephews, Roger M. Her life spanned Wright Brothers early flights, Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic, man on the moon and the Hubble deep space photos. She was born on April 17, 1905 in Lancaster, OH to Harry Rabe and Harriett Fullerton. She was exposed to art culture in Chicago with her grandmother and her aunt Lillian. She started student teaching in a one room schoolhouse at Horns Mill and attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from Ohio University. She was a librarian in Lancaster, taught school in Lancaster, Kirkersville, Solon and was principal at Etna, OH. She was preceded in death by her husbands James B. Randolph, Harvey Park and Art Walters. She leaves behind a son, James Randolph and his wife Eleanor "Fran"; granddaughter, Susan Porter and her husband, Jerry; grandson, Mark Randolph and his wife, Suzanne; great-grandson, Peyton Randolph; step son-in-law, Bob Hunziker; step grandson Steve Hunziker and his wife, Debbie. Peyton gave her a big hug recently and said "We love you." Mark remembered her taking him to the National Trails races and Susan remembers the trip to Chicago and riding on the "L" with her. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a charter member of VFW Post 3878 Auxiliary. Mrs. Eckhardt is survived by her daughters, Marie Weber of Paso Robles and Dixie Hunziker of Solvang; daughter-in-law Louise Eckhardt of Rochelle; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers; four sisters; son William Eckhardt; grandson Ricky Henrey; and great-grandchildren, Mark Schnorr, John Heinen and Hannah Schnorr.

Royal was born Aug. 2, 1909, in Wausau, Wis., the son of August and Matilda (Iwen) Kleinschmidt. He married Florence L. Hunziker on June 4, 1938, in Tomahawk, Wis. They moved to Normal in 1960 to be the owner/operator of the Royal Acres Mobil Home Park in Normal.

He is survived by a son, Douglas (Sandy) Kleinschmidt; two daughters, Carole Cmeyla, Wauwatosa, Wis., and Nancy (Alex) Barda, Franklin, Wis.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

His wife, parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Normal. He was known by his family and friends to be a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He spent most of his free time over the past several years becoming an inventor of an alternative energy source, which he had not yet completed to the patent stage.

He was a lover of people and loved to play cards, especially bingo and poker, with his friends. Before his wife died in 1999, they attended several of the small community festivals around McLean County and dearly loved living in the Bloomington/Normal area.

RUDD -- Raymond Melcher, 93, of Nora Springs, formerly of Rudd, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Nora Springs Care Center of natural causes; survivors include a son, Roger of Rudd; and a sister, Helen Irons of Clarence; he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 1997; a son, Norman; six brothers; and a sister; services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rudd United Methodist Church, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd; friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, and for an hour before services at the church; Mr. Melcher farmed near Rudd from 1940 to 1996.

LAESCH Laesch, Lois A., 55, of Deerfield Beach, FL died June 16, 2002. Lois was an electrician for FP & L, Co. for 21 years and an I.B.E.W. member. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, past president of G.B.A. of Fort Lauderdale, and formerly on the board of the Michigan Humane Society. She is survived by her sister Sally Frazier; sisters-in heart Joan Thompson, and Jeanne McGill; her dad Floyd Hunziker; 2 nieces Peggy and Jeanette; nephew Jim and her aunt Sharon. She was Aunt Lo-Lo to many and leaves behind so many friends and co-workers.
