Will of Thomas Millikin deceased

In the name of God. Amen: I Thomas Milliken of Milford township County of Cumberland being of sound and perfect mind & memory & understanding and sensible of the great uncertainty of this life &c, think convenient to make this my last will & testament as follows,

First and principally I commend my Soul to Almighty God my Creator hoping through his mercy & the prevailing merits and mediation of My blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to be eternally happy and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently intered at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as for such worldly substance as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me. I do hereby give devise and dispose of the same in manner following that is to say.

In the first place my will is that such Just debts as I shall owe at my decease be together with my funeral expences paid with all convenient Speed after my interment. I do hereby give & bequeath the third of my real & personal estate to my Dear and loving wife Mary Millikin During her natural life likewise I give her the gray mare and one cow together with her bed & bedding for her own private use Exclusive of her thirds. I give and bequeath to my children each an equal share of my plantation to be divided equally amongst them Said plantation to be sold when my second son James Millikin arrives at the age of twenty one years.

Likewise tis my will that my wife shall have the use of all the household furniture & the whole profits of the place for the space of two years together with all the Swine and the whole crop now in the ground provided she keeps and cloathes the Said children during that term and then if she continue to keep the children She shall be entitled to the same priveleges as before.

And I do appoint & authorize James Gray guardian for my son John Millikin, Joseph McConnell guardian for James Milligan, John Crozzer for Edward Milligen, William Bell for Saml Millikan and John McConnell guardian for Thomas Millikan until said children arrive at the age to choose guardians for themselves. Tis my will that each child shall have schooling Sufficient for them before and after their apprenticeship Commences & tis my will & desire that each child shall be put to a trade at the age of fourteen years.

I do appoint & constitute my trusty friends William McConell & Thomas Torbett my sole Executors of this my last will & testament made this day and I do revoke & renounce all former wills Dated this eight day of April in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy eight 1778.

Be it remembered that on the 6th day of June Anno Domini 1780 the testamant and last will of Thomas Millikan was legally proved of which the foregoing record is a true copy and letters testamety issued in Common form to William McConnell and Thomas Torbutt (the former only being sworn) Executors therein named, Inventory and account to be exhibited in the time appointed by law.
