LYNN - Mr. John J. Higgins, Jr, age 73 of Lynn,
died
Wednesday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief
illness. He was the beloved husband of Adele (Carnevali) Higgins,
with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John J., Sr. and Margaret
(Shinnick) Higgins. He attended Lynn Schools, was a graduate of Lynn
Classical High School, and was a lifelong resident of Lynn. He later
attended the University of Oklahoma and Fitchburg State College.
Over the years, after working for the Boston Navy Yard, the US Army,
the US Air Force, and General Electric, he retired from the US
Postal Service. He was a past member of the Postal Worker's Union,
the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, and was also a longtime
communicant of St. Pius V Church. He enjoyed fixing cars, inventing
various items, reading, listening to music, helping others, road
trips and traveling, and doing things with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, John J. Higgins,
III and his wife Carol and Janice MacKenzie and her husband Aengus
all of Lynn. He was the loving Grandfather of Shawn Higgins and
Nathaniel and Abigail MacKenzie. A Funeral will be held from the
Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St. LYNN on Monday at 9:30AM
followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30AM.
Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will
follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visiting Hours Sunday 1-5PM. Gifts

Present: An Illustrated Historical Souvenir Published 1897 Higgins, Solomon S., was born June 4, 1845, the son
of Solomon and Olive Sparrow Higgins. He went on sea-voyages early
in life, and subsequently went into the provision business in
Boston, where he has been engaged over twenty-five years. He came to
Somerville, and finally purchased the George O. Brastow mansion on
Spring Hill. He is one of the largest real estate dealers in
Somerville, a great part of which property he has extensively
developed. He was a member of the Common Council in 1889 and 1890,
and is an earnest worker in the Republican Ward and City Committee.
Mr. Higgins takes a great deal of interest in the G. A. R., and is a
member of W. C'. Kinsley Post 139, and has served on the staffs of
Gen. Weisart, Cnpt. J. G. B. Adams, commanders of the National
Department. He married, for his first wife, Julia L, Nickerson of
Harwich, Mass., who died in 1875, and by whom he had four children,
a son surviving and being in business with his father. ln 1878 Mr.
Higgins married Abhie K. Lakin. He is a member of the Red Men, Sons
of the Revolution, Central and Whitney Clubs. He had a
great-grandfather who had four commissions in the revolutionary
period. At the celebration of the semi-centennial in 1892 Mr.
Higgins was inspector-general on the staff of General Wentworth. His
voice is often heard in Memorial Day orations.

WILLIAM H. HIGGINS, of Andover and Lawrence,
Massachusetts, is a son of Henry C. and Eliza
A. (Abbott) Higgins. His father, a Civil War veteran,
was born in East Randolph, Vermont, but is now
deceased.
His mother, Eliza A. (Abbott) Higgins, daughter
of Noah Abbott, was born in Andover, Massachusetts,
where her son, William H. Higgins was born,
March 3, 1864. He was educated in the public schools,
and upon arriving at man's estate, started a sale
exchange and livery business in Andover, which he has
very successfully conducted for about thirty years. He
had in the meantime become the owner of a good
farm, and in 1910 began operating it under his
personal management, continuing until 1918. He then
began operating in real estate, with offices at No.
575 Essex street, Lawrence, with a branch office at
Andover, where he also has a store for the sale of
novelties. He has built up a good real estate,
mortgage and insurance business, his dealings being in
residence, commercial and farm properties. Mr. Higgins
is a member of the Masonic order, affiliated with St
Matthew's Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; Mt. Sinai
Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Lawrence Council, Royal
and Select Masters; Bethany Commandery, Knights
Templar; Massachusetts Consistory, and Aleppo Temple,
Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He
is a member of Christ Protestant Episcopal Church, at
Andover. In politics he is a Republican, but not an
office seeker. On October 20, 1896, Mr. Higgins
married, at Andover, Helen I. Barnett, daughter of
William Barnett, of Andover, and they are the parents
of two sons : William B. and Loring A.. William B.
Higgins enlisted in the National Guard and saw service
on the Mexican Border as a member of Battery C. Later
this battery went overseas with the 20th Division,
American Expeditionary Forces, to France. He entered
the service as first lieutenant of Battery C, Heavy
Artillery, and attained the rank of captain. After
several months of hard service as an artillery
officer, he was transferred to the Radio Division, and
later served as staff intelligence officer. He is now
a captain of the Massachusetts National Guard. Loring
A. Higgins enlisted in the Coast Artillery and was at
once sent overseas, where he was transferred to
Battery D, 148* Regiment, 66th Field Artillery
Brigade, and later was assigned to the Army of
Occupation after the Armistice was signed. The family
home is No. 15 Chestnut street, Andover,
Massachusetts, the town of Mr. Higgins' birth, the
birthplace of his mother and of his sons. He is widely
known as an able, energetic business man and as a good
citizen, public-spirited and progressive.

MONROE (Aug 27): Benjamin P. Higgins, 93, of Monroe,
passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 23, 2007, at
Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast (Maine).
Ben was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Brockton, Mass., son
of Benjamin P. Higgins Sr. and Harriett (Pendagrass)
Higgins.
He grew up and attended schools in Brockton and was
employed as a truck driver for many years for
Brancroft Martin and New England Bolt Co. in
Massachusetts.
Ben and his beloved wife, Margaret, lived and worked
in Somerville and Arlington, Mass. until their
retirement. In December 1978, they moved to Monroe,
where they spent their remaining years.
They greatly enjoyed traveling throughout Maine and
their many trips to Nova Scotia. Margaret was a great
cook and enjoyed entertaining in their home. Ben was a
member of the IOOF Lodge 136, the Loyal Rebekah Lodge
92 of Monroe and Swanville Community Church.
Ben was predeceased in 2004 by his wife of 57 years,
Margaret D. Cossar Higgins; and brother, Abbott
Higgins of Brockton, Mass. He is survived by sister,
Beverly Fanning of Bridgewater, Mass.; sister-in-law,
Janet Cossar of Tiverton, R.I.; several nieces and a
nephew. He will be missed by his many friends in the
area, especially by his neighbors, Roland and Marnee
Clements, and all of the Aitken family in Monroe.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug.
27, 2007, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo
Ave., Belfast. Burial will follow at Pilgrim's Home
Cemetery in Monroe.

94, of Norwell, died April 22, 2007.
Mrs. Connolly had been a former resident of Randolph and Pompano
Beach, Fla.
Wife of the late James J. Connolly, she leaves her
children, James Connolly of Campton, N.H., and
Englewood, Fla., Paul Connolly of Florence, N.C.,
formerly of Waltham, Marilyn MacLellan of Scituate
and David Connolly of Carson City, Nev.; her
sister, Eleanor Grazio of Milton; her brother,
William Higgins of Wayland and Naples, Fla.; 11
grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the
late Joseph Higgins and James Higgins.
A funeral will be held 9 a.m., Friday, April 27, at Richardson-Gaffey
Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Nativity Church in Scituate at
10 a.m. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate. Visiting hours
are from 4 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, April 26.

Francis J. Higgins, 84, of 955 Barker Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 18, 1922, son of William F. and May McCormick Higgins, he was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
A World War II veteran of the Coast Guard, he served from 1942 to 1946. Mr. Higgins was employed by General Electric Co. for 43 years in various departments. He retired Jan. 1, 1985.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and
Pensioners' clubs.
He enjoyed playing cards and gardening and was fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He and his wife, the former Barbara M. Cushing, were married April 23, 1949, at St. Mark's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard C. Higgins of Richmond and
Michael F. Higgins of Pittsfield; and two granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Francis J. Higgins, who died Monday, July 30, 2007, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 9 a.m. until the time
of the funeral at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or
Hospice Care in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home. He also leaves two granddaughters, Heidi M. Orth and her husband, Bruce, of Richmond and Kristy D. Higgins of Middletown, Conn.

WILMINGTON - Edward J. Higgins, 74, died on Thursday,
June 21, 2007, at the Northeast Specialty Hospital in
Waltham. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (McDermott) Higgins.
He was born in Cobh, Ireland, on April 5, 1933, the
son of the late Edward Higgins and Mary (Lynch)
Higgins.
Mr. Higgins served in the U.S. Army.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by Koch Membrane for many years in the Maintenance Security Department.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his
daughter, Linda Higgins of Littleton; and his son,
Robert Higgins of Wilmington.
Committal services for Mr. Higgins took place in the veteran�s lot at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home, Wilmington.
