His father was Patrick Higgins, whom she married on May 10, 1844 at Lockport, New York. Her husband has been blind for many years. They lived at 159 Orchard St, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to remove from the rolls of the Army the charge of desertion now standing against the name of Edwin Higgins, late private of Company H, Eleventh Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry, and to grant him an honorable discharge: Provisio; Provided that no pay, bounty, or other emoluments shall become due or payable by virtue of the passage of this Act.
Granted Honorable discharge.

Approved, July 1,1898.

Phebe P. Higgins (nee Coventon) ,the widow of Nelson Higgins, applied for a pension December 27, 1864. At the time of application she was a resident of Allen Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. They had been married on November 24, 1853 at Quincy, Branch County, Michigan by Truman Burroughs, Minister of the Gospel. They had the following children; Joseph Daniel Higgins, born October 2, 1856, Rosa Phebe Higgins, born July 20, 1861. Nelson Higgins died June 16, 1864 at Hospital at Chattanooga Tennessee of Chronic Diarrhea. Phebe Higgins remarried on June 18, 1865 to Thomas Frarey at Hillsdale County. She later divorced Thomas Frarey on March 21, 1872. She later married Samual (last name unreadable) on September 1, 1877, he died December 13, 1891, She later married Thomas Neville on February 10, 1896. He died October 13, 1905.

A pension for the minor children of Thomas William Higgins and Mary Adelia Higgins (nee Minor) was applied for on October 31, 1865 by William Minor, the soldiers father in law. Thomas Higgins married Mary A. Minor on August 26, 1857 by John Shaw, the Justice of the Peace of Cass County, Michigan at the residence of William Minor at Penn Township, Cass County, Michigan. Thomas William Higgins died of Pneumonia on March 19, 1862 at Wilson Creek, Kentucky. His service file states his date of birth as October 27, 1834, that he was 6 foot tall, had a dark complexion, black eyes and brown hair.
The children's names were; James Adelbert Higgins, born August 25, 1858 and Henry Minor Higgins, born November 23, 1860.
Mary A. Higgins later married John W. Ayres October 17, 1863 in the state of Michigan. He divorced her, which she later states was with out her knowledge, at Elkhart, Indiana on September 4, 1867. She remarried 2 more times; 1st to John Burgdorf, a blacksmith, and after his death of heart failure, she then remarried John W. Ayres on May 7, 1884 at Prairie Round Top, Kalamazoo, Michigan and remained with him until his death on August 19, 1898 at Penn Township, Cass County, Michigan.
In a letter to the pension office dated May 12, 1910, Mary A. Ayres states that her and Thomas William Higgins 2 male children are deceased.
