Images of Missouri's Past

Images of Kansas City-collection of about 14,000 items. The photographs primarily pertain to Kansas City, MO; buildings, bridges, streets, and other landmarks. The photographs span a time period from the 1870s up to the early 1990s, with an emphasis on the 1920s through the 1950s.

Taking the Long View: Panoramic Photographs, 1851-1991 - nice selection of richly detailed panoramic views of such places as Penn Valley Park, downtown Kansas City, and the stockyards.

Hargrave Collection-a set of 173 photographs which depict scenes primarily in and around downtown Kansas City, Missouri. They were originally created to document accident sites for later use as evidence in lawsuits

American Landscape & Architectural Design 1850-1920 - collection of approximately 2,800 lantern slides represents an historical view of American buildings and landscapes built during the period 1850-1920. 

Mark Twain Gallery -  provides a visual record of different periods in Mark Twain's life, the places he lived, his family, and close associates

Zeldin Collection - comprises nearly 400 glass photographic negatives. The collection was donated to the Special Collections Department by Mr. Richard Zeldin in July, 1998.

Kansas City Streets of the 1920's - Collection from the Black Archives of Mid-America.

Missouri Department of Transportation - Photo archives of past featured photographs.

Missouri State Archives - four major groups of photos: the Vanishing Missouri Collection, the Portrait Collection, the Commerce and Industrial Development Collection, and the Gerald R. Massie collection

J. C. Strauss Portrait Collection -  The collection consists of approximately 250 studio portrait photographs of St. Louisans prominent in government, business and industry, and professions, taken by J. C. (Julius Caesar) Strauss

State Historical Society of Missouri - has over 100,000 original photographs, postcards, copy photographs and photographs of drawings, engravings, maps, paintings, political cartoons.

Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) - document achievements in architecture, engineering, and design in the United States

Maries County Photo Collection - photographs copied from Volumes 1-9 of the scrapbook collection at the Old Jail Museum at Vienna, Missouri featuring significant locations, buildings, events, and individuals.

Missouri. Historical mining photographs, ca 1880s-1910s - Collection of photographs concerning mining industries in Missouri, with an emphasis on the Old Lead Belt of southeastern Missouri, and the Tri-State Mining District centered around Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri.

Virtually Missouri: Missouri Digitization Planning Project (MDPP) coordinates access to digital collections and exhibits created by the cultural & scientific heritage institutions of Missouri. The project brings together representatives from the archives, historical society, library, and museum communities.
