Nathan Shelley was the son of John Shelley of Guilford County, North Carolina. Nathan, his father, and brother Jeremiah had land near High Point.

Samuel, married Verlinder Gardner March 18, 1813 in Columbus, GA. Lived in Edgefield Co., SC in 1830 with five daughters, died in South Carolina. The Guilford Genealogist had the aforementioned information.
Jacob D., born 1792 - 1795 in Guilford County, served in War of 1812 (private in a company of militia commanded by Captain John English, regiment commanded by Colonel Samuel Bunch, mustered out May 4, 1814) and Creek Indian War, married Mary Cravens 1818 in Alabama. Colonel in Mexican war. In 1860 in Desoto Parish, Louisiana, he had 20 acres of improved land and 300 acres unimproved, with a cash value of $1200. He had $25 worth of implements and $489 worth of livestock. Was a teacher, cared for two orphaned Pardue nieces from South Carolina. He was mustered out of Civil War duty in Desoto Parish, Louisiana because of his age. He died in Louisiana. Son Jacob Oscar married in Desoto Parish, daughter Elizabeth Anne married John H. Townsend. Elizabeth died in 1848, Townsend in 1857, and Jacob became guardian for the 4 children (Wales served as a courior, was wounded at the Battle of Mansfield, moved to Port Lavaca Texas after the war, to Dallas in 1874, and died there. Sheppard was probably another child). Son James T. Shelley was a Union colonel.


Jonathan, died in Alabama. Oak Hill Cemetery, Talladega, has a marker for Jonathan H. Shelley 9/29/1792 - 10/18/1836.


Elizabeth (Jane), married Dr. Peter Rubel (Ruble) April 05, 1827 in Jefferson County, perhaps after William Petty died (married 1799 in Jefferson County). Died in Alabama


William, born 10/23/1801, moved to Talladega, Alabama before 1840. The 1840 census has four males and two females of ages likely to be his children, one female of his age, and another male of his age. He was father of
Charles, Nathan, (both generals), James - a colonel killed at Petersburg,
Henry, an adjutant general , Sarah, and Harriet, and died in Alabama 10/10/1874. The William P. Shelley buried Talladega Oak Hill Cemetery is probably a son.


Charles P., born 1803 in Tennessee, moved to Talladega, Alabama. On October 10, 1839, he made a cash claim for 40 acres in Talladega County - the southwest of the southeast of Section 36, of township 18 south, 5 east. He died in Florida


Margaret F., born 1805, married Jesse Millican, moved to Talladega, Alabama, then to Desoto Parish, Louisiana. Died in Alabama. Marker at Oak Hill.,

One article said that a Shelley daughter married Joseph (or D.) Perdue in South Carolina, having Josephine Victoria in 1838 and Emma in 1840. The article said that Joseph was the son of the French general Marshal Ney, changing his name when coming to the U.S.
Emma was living with uncle Jacob Shelley in 1860 Desoto Parish, Louisiana, age 20. She never married. In 1870 Desoto Parish, Emma is 32, living with sister Josie 30 and her husband Henry 31.
Josephine married Henry H. Goldman in Desoto Parish on November 16, 1859 and died in Dallas.

A marriage record for Silas "Golding" to Mary Pearson on October 28, 1831 in Wilkes County, Georgia.
There is only one Goldman on the 1840 census for Wilkes County, and it's Silas W. Goldman. His entry is on page 259 of District 171. His household listing has two males under 5, one male 5-9, one male 30-39, one female 15-19, and one female 20-29.

Henry was in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1850, 12, with Mary Goldman 35 and Wm. J. 6.

Mary Goldman, 49, is with F. G. Winfield, 44, in 1860 Wilkes County, Georgia. Hattie E. Winfield is 27, Felitine G. 19, William J. 17, John G. 15, ASlexander P. 12, Anna E. 6.

In 1860 Wilkes County, William is 15, living with farmer Mary A. Callaway 54. William J. is 24, teaching school, and Jas Jesse/Jape is 21, a doctor.

In 1869, H.L. Goldman was a member of the De Soto Masonic Lodge # 55.

In 1870 De Soto Parish, Louisiana, next to Henry, W. J. is 23, farming, and J. H. Walker 21 is a farm laborer.

H.L. is 31, married to J.V. 36. George is 5 H.L. Jr. 2, and M.A. 58 is with them. So is Emma Pardue, 32.

W.J. Goldman married Julia E. Lewis on Feb 18, 1871 in De Soto Parish.
Julia's pension application said her husband was William Joiner Goldman, dying Dec 9, 1897.

William is next to brother Henry in De Soto Parish Louisiana in 1880, with Joulia 23 born in Louisiana, Eddie 9, James 6, Bettie 4, and Emma 1.

In 1880 Montgomery County, Texas, Julia is widowed, born Sept 1849 in Louisiana. Bettie August 1876 and Robert Sept 1882 were born in Louisiana. Corrie C. Sept 1886 and Herbert June 1894 were born in Texas.

In 1920 Beaumont, Texas, Julia is widowed, 70 with Bettie 42 both born in Louisiana. They're living with Geore D. 46 and Emma M. 40 Hopkins and their three kids. Emma's daughter Edna Mae 20 is married to Robert D. Colley 25 and hae a year--old son. Also with them is George's niece Allwood Goldman, 11, born in Texas.

Julia E. Goldman, 1848-1938 is buried in Beaumont, # 43603075, with son Corrie C. 1888-1908.

She was born Sept 30, 1849 in Mansfield to Dr. John Lewis of Georgia and Elizabeth Reynolds of Alabama, Julia was the wife of W. J. Goldman.
(In 1850 the census of De Soto Parish has Dr. John E. Lewis 37 and Elizabeth 24. Elizabeth is 6, John 5, and Julia 1. Robert G. Lewis is an overseer.
One tree said Dr. Lewis died Oct 4, 1861 and is buried on the Reynolds Farm, Lula, DeSoto Parish.

Bettie Goldman 1877-1933 is also buried in Beaumont # 43603074.

William J. Goldman and Julia Lewis had Emma Mae on February 14, 1879 in Benson Louisian, Emma Hopkins, wife of George Hopkins, died January 10, 1959 in Jefferson County, Texas, to be buried in Magnollia cemetery, Beaumont. # 90011864.




August 23, 1898, "Miss Emma Pardue died yesterday at the residence of her brother-in-law, H.L. Goldman, 300 San Jacinto street. Funeral this afternoon.

H. L. Goldman died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Mattison, 195 Cole Avenue, aged 71 years.
The funeral will be from the residence to Oakland Cemetery at 2 p.m. today.
Mr. Goldman, who was born in Georgia, came to Dallas twenty years ago. He is survived by his wife and six children George, J. Y., D. D., J. P., and L. C., and Mrs. Mattison.
Deceased was an ex-Confederate soldier. Honorary pallbearers will be T. J. Pulliam, H. Craddock, Milton Park, W. B. Taylor, W. R. Barnes, T. J. Sneed, by order of Gen. Gano of Sterling Price Camp.

Mrs. Josephine Goldman, 77 years old, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Mattison, 6024 Bryan Parkway. Funeral service will be held at the residence at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon, the Rev. George W. Truett, assisted by the Rev. J. H. Moore, officiating. The burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Mrs. Goldman, who was the widow of Henry L. Goldman, was a native of Alabama. She had been a resident of Dallas about thirty years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Mattison, and four sons, Jack Goldman, D. D. Goldman, A. P. Goldman, and L. C. Goldman, all of Dallas.

DEATH CLAIMS JACK GOLDMAN; WAS CONSTABLE HERE 4 YEARS

Jack Goldman, 1204 Bishop Avenue, a resident of Dallas for thirty-one years and Constable of Precinct 1 for four years, died yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock.
Mr. Goldman was born at Mansfield, La., and spent his early childhood there. He is survived by his wife, two grown sons, Winfrey and Jack Goldman; a grown daughter, Miss Lillian Goldman; and seven smaller children, Dean, Murray, David, Lindsey S., James R., Elva, and Aileen. Three brothers, D. D., J. P., and L. C. Goldman, all of Dallas, also survive.
Funeral service will be held today at noon at the chapel of Ed C. Smith, undertaker. The list of honorary pallbearers includes Judges Kenneth Foree, T. A. Work, and W. L. Thornton, Justice of the Peace Sam J. Barnett, D. Frank Carden, Mayor Frank W. Wozencraft, H. O. Samuell, R. L. Winfrey, W. K. Reynolds, Grady Kennedy, Charles Hodges, Warren Diamond, J. J. Simmons, John Baldwin, Leslie Stewart, Guy Spencer, Dean Arnold, Dr. W. W. Samuell, and Elmo Strait. Active pallbearers will be A. U. Puckitt, Murray Fisher, Wilsey Sims, Bruce Truitt, ,John Cornwell, and J. E. Record.



Annie L. Mattison was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on July 14, 1877, dying in Dallas November 20, 1862. is buried in Dallas # 102451501.
The article said that Joseph Perdue married a Hampton girl, whose brother Wade visited them often "In 1838, Hampton married Margaret Preston (1818-1852). Their children were: Wade Hampton IV (1840-1879), Thomas Preston Hampton (1843-1864, killed in the war), Sarah Buchanan Hampton (1845-1886), John Preston Hampton (1846-1847), and Harriet Flud Hampton (1848-1853).
In 1858, Hampton III married Mary Singleton McDuffie (1830-1874). Their children were: George McDuffie Hampton (1859-1917), Mary Singleton "Daisy" Hampton (1861-1934), Alfred Hampton (1863-1942), and Catherine Fisher Hampton (born and died 1867)
In 1890, Hampton's niece Caroline, an operating room nurse, married William Halsted, later known as the "father of American surgery" for his contributions. He had developed the surgical glove to try to protect Caroline's skin from the harsh surgical sterilization chemicals.[13] Wade Hampton died in Columbia. He is buried there in Trinity Cathedral Churchyard."

Douglas D. Goldman, born Sept 19, 1872 in Lousiana, died in Los Angeles August 12, 1940.
