1877 Monroe County Business Directory

The 1877 Monroe County Business directory is from the book, History of Monroe County 1788-1877, pages 295-320.  Not like any other directory you may have previously encountered, this directory includes the following:

• Full name

• Occupation

• Residence

• Birth Location

  • Find out the county and state, the country and sometimes the town of birth for your ancestor!

• Date settled in Monroe County

  • Discover when your ancestor moved to Monroe County from another county or state or country.

  • This date may be used as a guide for those ancestors who immigrated to the US and settled immediately in Monroe County.

• Date Established

  • Find out the year your ancestor started his business in Monroe County.

  • If your ancestor worked for one of the many companies listed, find out more about the company, when it was established, who was president, where it was located.

The first part of the directory is devoted to the City of Rochester and is divided into business categories, listings are alphabetical within each category.  The second part is listings by town.  These listings are shorter and so there is just one alphabetical listing for each town.
