Family Genealogy - Horn Family Genealogy
Jacob HORN was born in Hildburghausen, Thuringia, Germany about 1819. His wife, Mary NORSDUDH, was also born in Hilburghausen about 1824. At some point, unknown at this time, they moved, possibly with their families, to Hesse-Darmstadt where Jacob and Mary were married sometime prior to 1848.
There they had two children born to them, Anna born in April 1848 and Franz Jacob, born in April 1851. Jacob and his family left Germany in the spring of 1857. They traveled on the ship Wellfleet and arrived in the Port Of New York on 4 June 1857.
After their arrival in the Port Of New York, they traveled to Rochester, Monroe County, where they made their home. There is nothing at this time to indicate if there was a particular reason Jacob chose to live in Rochester. During his years in Rochester, Jacob worked as a blacksmith and later as a milk peddler. He died in 1878 and was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
At this time there is no information about daughter Mary. It is assumed that she married prior to 1876 when the City of Rochester started keeping marriage records. Hopefully church records will provide the information needed to expand this family line.
Son Franz (aka Frank) HORN married Mary ROTH before 1870, in Rochester. They had four children. Frank HORN was a tinsmith and was successful with his work.
