Köhler Family Genealogy

The majority of the information on the KÖHLER family was complied and researched  diligently by my cousin,  Dorothy OBERER MULHAUSER.  Her kindness and generosity have made these pages possible.

Margaretha KÖHLER was the daughter of Michel KÖHLER and Margaretha HERG.  She was born on the 30th of September in 1824 in Gräfendorf, Bavaria, Germany.

In 1854, Margaretha left her home in Bavaria and joined her brothers, Johann and Johann Michel in Piqua, Miami County, Ohio.  Johann (called John in Ohio) had emigrated in 1848 and Johann Michel (called Michael in Ohio) had joined him in 1852. 

In December of 1855 Margaretha married Mathias SCHNELL.  They had five children, Louisa, Mary, Julia, Joseph and Anna. 

The KÖHLERS all remained in Piqua.  John married Mary and they had three children before his death in 1861, Louisa, Caroline and John.

Michael married Margaret prior to 1862 and they had 7 known children, Mary, Frank, Louisa, Henry, Anna, Joseph and Clara.  Michael was a butcher and very successful with his business.
