"Joseph Moran was born in Canada, November 28, 1840 and died in Kalkaska, July 29, 1926. He was united in marriage to Phoebe Gayette [as spelled in newspaper] July 4, 1859. To this union 6 children were born; three are left to mourn his loss: Mrs. Mary Spade of Kalkaska, with whom he made his home; Noah of Alden, and Joseph of New York state. He also leaves a widow, 20 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. With his family he moved to Michigan in 1885, locating on the shore of Torch Lake, where he lived until 13 years ago when he move to Kalkaska. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Spade Saturday, July 13th [date in newspaper] at ten o'clock, Rev. J. B. McGinness officiating. The body was taken to Elk Rapids for burial. Fed Tomkins funeral director."

From 22 May 1980 interview of Ward Ruttan (age 83), Kalkaska, MI: 'Ward Ruttan knew Joseph Moran when he was a child and young man. He lived about 10 to 15 miles from him. Occasionally he worked with Joseph at Joseph's home. Ward Ruttan is not related to Moran family, but referred to Joseph as Grandpa Moran. Joseph Moran lived with Louis Roberts and Emma McLain on a farm at Kewadin, MI having moved there in 1913 or 1914. They moved to Grand Marais when Joseph Moran died. Grandma Moran lived with Joseph in home. Home in section 7, Milton Twp., Antrim County, SW fraction of 1/8 of the SW fraction of 1/4. Ward Ruttan knew Joseph Moran as a lumberman when lived at Kewadin. He did not know where he came form before then. Ward Ruttan did not know any other Moran relatives. Hoffer's in Kewadin may be living [as of 1980] and have known Grandpa Moran

Obituary: "Services held for Ralph H. Moran. Ypsilanti - Military funeral services were conducted by the American Legion Post 282 Saturday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stevens and Bush Funeral Home for Ralph H. Moran, former Bellaire and Alden resident, who died Wednesday, November 24 at the Veteran's Hospital, Dearborn. Rev. Daniel Baughey officiated at the services and interment was made at Highland cemetery. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Moran was a Ypsilanti resident for approximately 20 years. He had been confined at the veteran's hospital for the past three months and previous to that time had lived on a farm near Bellaire from 1943 to November 1947, when he sold the farm. Mr. Moran was a former member of the American Legion Post 282. He was born at Elk Rapids, Michigan, September 26, 1894, to Noah and Olive Moran. His father passed away suddenly about a month ago. Surviving besides his wife, Nancy, to whom he was married May 3, 1919, in Traverse City, are four sons, Oakley, New Boston; Eugene, Willow Village; Carl and Lionel, Cherry Hill; a daughter Fern, at home; four brothers, Fred, Kewadin; Elmer, Alden; Alonzo, Plainwell; and Richard, Belleville; three sisters Mrs. Fred Flaherty, Detroit; Mrs. Gerald Smith, Dryden; Mrs. Gunther Steffens, Whittaker; and eight grandchildren.
