Cheryl's Page

Welcome

This is my page I have always loved to put together scrap books and memory books. In my younger years I was a Camp Fire Girl (an American version of Girl Guides). We had to make memory books to earn our badges. Could this have been the start of my web page mania?

This is my virtual scrapbook. Here, I will put things that I enjoy, memories I cherish and other bits of trivia which I enjoy. Come to my world

Family History

I have been researching my family for over 30 years now. When I was Principal of Scriber Lake High School in Edmonds Washington in 1984, a colleague was interested in Family History. Each year we cancelled regular classes for two weeks and held mini-courses for the students. One year, Kathy and I taught a course in family history.

Of course I got hooked and began to ask questions about my own family. I soon learned how to use the LDS in Seattle and with the help of those dear folk began to piece together the story of the Lewis'. In those days we used microfiche readers at the local Mormon church. The microfiche's had to be mailed from Salt Lake City, Utah. Today things are much easier and we can search from the comfort of our living room. We can even learn about our roots from our DNA.

I have published two books on family history (Lewis/Olanie. 1986 and Alfred King Lewis. 1997) and am now using the web to publish.

Family Stories and Web pages

Morgan History

Since I married Brinley in 1992 and moved to Britain, I have been able to extend my family search to his family. We have joined the Morgan Society and I am the Internet Contact.

Other passions

I do periodically do other things besides write web pages and play solitare. I love to sing and read and collect old photo's. Try some of these:

More recently Brinley and I have developed a passion for Welsh. We are taking Welsh language evening classes along with weekend sessions.

Dwi 'n siarad Cymraeg ty pyn bach

Learn Welsh. There are some wonderful sites for learning and practicing Welsh. You could start with BBC Learn Welsh

Slang Dictionary A country is defined by the way it uses words -- here are some which tickle my fancy bone (my mom started me on this!!)

My Favourite Songs Mom is also responsible for my love of songs. She used to sing in the car (with or without the radio) and I would read her lips to follow along. At summer camp, I also loved to sing. We sang to get up, sang to eat, sang while we worked and hiked and sang before the campfire. Someday I will put some of my old camp songs here. But that will have to wait until I go home again.

Work

Work! Yes I do have a real job. I have worked in The Uk since 1992. I am currently Head of School Effectiveness in Wales in the Department for Children Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills in Wales, UK

I also continue to pursue my passion for Global education through my role as Chairman of the iEARN UK charity as well as a member of the Executive Council for iEARN International.
