Mary Morris Pickett - Asa Morris b abt 1820-21 possibly in Richmond Co, Va or Richmond, Henrico Co, Va. No dates or names of parents or siblings at this point. Asa MORRIS moved westward to Louisville, Jefferson Co, Ky. I do NOT know his reason for moving . As he was living in Louisville, Asa MORRIS met the NAYLOR family. There is a strong possibility both families knew each other from Va. I was checking Gen Forum, and noticed Naylor's from Va. I do know that Asa MORRIS was smitten with a young lady named Letitia NAYLOR. Letitia Naylor b abt 1825 in Louisville, Jefferson Co, Ky. Again, no dates or names available. Apparently, both families moved to Howard Co, Mo. I have two versions of how Asa & Letitia married. The first is they married in Howard Co, Mo on Aug 25th, 1842. The second one is that both families disapproved of the marriage, so while still living in Louisville, Ky they ran off and married. In my opinion I believe the first version. But, it's anyone's guess!! Later the MORRISes moved to St.Catherine, Linn Co, Mo. Asa's trade was farming. I feel that some of the NAYLOR'S may have traveled with Asa and Letitia to Linn Co, Mo. Names of MORRIS children: George b abt 1845, Asa Clay b abt 1850, Thomas Joel b abt 1852, William Franklin b abt 1855, James Harvey b abt 1858 ( my grt-grandfather ) Nancy b abt 1860, Silas b abt 1863 and no D.O.B. on Lucretia. All Morris children were b in Linn Co, Mo. Lucretia MORRIS married Bill Taylor from Linn Co, Mo and had one son named Harrison. George MORRIS was killed by a passenger train. Nancy was an old maid. Thomas Joel accidently shot himself. Silas was a doctor and died young from neumonia. Silas married Sadie(?) who was a school teacher. They had one son named Horace. Frank Morris married Matha Gilbert on June 11th, 1887. They had 4 children,,,,Joe, Frank, Harry and Grace. James Harvey MORRIS married Mary Jane FLINN. And Asa Clay married late in life and had no offspring. If any of this info looks familiar, please e-mail me. I want to know.....do I have any cousins out there? Mary Morris Pickett

They are buried in a family plot on their farm about 5 miles E. of Savannah near the Long Branch Creek. This is all information related by a relative in a biography many years ago and I do not have much documentation to prove it, except for the Will of George and some court documents that were in MO. I have more information about William and his family, as he was my line, if anybody wants it. What I need is the parents of George Morris, Sr. and his wife Mary Fisher. Thank you. Dorothy Henson

Layton was in the 1830 census with Turner Morris and Thomas Morris in Butler County Ohio. In 1840 all 3 were in Ripley County Indiana. In 1850 only Layton and Turner were in the Ripley County census. Turner was born April 6, 1797 in Virginia.
Robert Reed Morris - I am searching for info. on my 3gr grandfather,James G. Morris, b. in N.C. cc1816. I think he may be the son of Harvey Morris, son of Aaron Morris of New Bern N.C.They came to Shilo, Tn. around 1830. J.G. morris married Mahala Benson. They lived in Henderson co. Tn, around a place called Center Hill. James G. may have had a brother named John. Also he could have had a brother by the name of Zenus. His father in law, Levin Benson is buried in the cemetery at Baren Springs, Tn. James G and his wife, Mahala were both alive for the 1860 census. They were both dead by the spring term of court in1861. I can't find where either one are buried. They lived in Henderson Co. Tn. and the courthouse in Lexington was burned during the war between the states and again later on. Records in this county are hard to come by Thanks for any help you can give.
John W. Scott - I am looking for information on Thomas Morris who died in Orange Co., VA, in 1789. In his will, he names the following children: sons Reubin, Jilson (Gilson/Gillison/and, possibly, Gibson in other records), John, and Thomas; daughters Elizabeth, Beheasthsalem (spelling isn't clear), and Sally. His will gives his plantation to his wife, Mary. There is a Thomas Morris mentioned in _Virginia Colonial Militia, 1651-1776_, ed. William Armstrong Crozier, Genealogical Publishing Company, 1965. In that work, under Land Bounty Certificates, p. 30, is an entry for "Thos. Morris, soldier till properly discharged in 1759 in a regiment for the immediate defense of this state--Orange Co., Feby., 1780." My theory is that Thomas Morris was born in Spotsylvania Co., sold his land there, and moved to Orange Co. His son, Gilson, married Molly (Polly) Knight, daughter of Ephraim/Ephriam Knight of Spotsylvania. In _Spotsylvania County Records, 1721-1800_, there is an abstract for the will of a Thomas Morris, d. 1741, naming his wife, Margaret; sons Thomas and William; and daughters Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Margaret. This Thomas could be the father of the Thomas I am researching. In the same book, there are listings of guardian bonds posted for Thomas Morris, orphan of Thomas Morris, in 1747, 1749, and 1751. There is also mention of a land transaction in 1765 which refers to property "lately purchased" of Thomas Morris. Gilson, son of Thomas, is my g-g-g-g-grandfather, and I have quite a bit of information on his descendants, but very little on the other children of Thomas. Pam Scott .
