Ron Wilson - Subject: William Morris, Sr., Virginia and West Virginia Has anyone found a connection between William Morris Sr. and his child Joshua other than the will of 14 June 1794 which is recorded in Kanawha County VA. (Book A, page 30). As a new Morris researcher, I have found several historical (secondary) works and many online queries which say William Sr. is the father of Joshua b. 1753, Culpepper Co., Virginia who mar. Frances Simms. Unfortunately no one yet has found it necessary to cite sources for their statements making it difficult to say definitively that this Joshua is the Joshua in the will. Thanks for any help. Ron Wilson |

Everett - Seeking information about the
ancestry of William Morris (1753-6 to
1841). Born in Philadelphia, he was associated with
(now) Mercer County, NJ history. Died in Hamilton
Square, Mercer Cty, NJ, buried in Hamilton Square Baptist
churchyard. During Revolution, his first enlistment was as musician in Captain William Tucker's company, then served in numerous additional companies, finally on the privateer Rambler, out of Philadelphia, which was taken by a British man 'o war, following which he was held by British on notorious prison ship Jersey, then was discharged in 1783. Applied for pension in 1840, which was paid until his death, when as a widower, he made his home with one Mary Ann Barbour. The eldest of his ten children, John, was my G-G Grandfather; my record of John's descendants is fairly complete, but I know little about the descendants of his siblings, who made their homes in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Connecticut and Ohio. Will share information with any in my line who are interested. Morris [email protected]. |

Nichols - I am desparately seeking the
parents of my ancestor John Morris who
was b. about 1780. He married Nancy Pennell in
Casey Co. Ky. in 1809, and he died about 1842 in Lincoln
Co. Ky. Their children included: Eliza, who married Moses
Yowell and removed to Illinois (1850); John, who married
Frances Johnson and removed to Illinois (1850); Thomas,
who married Nancy Jane Goode and removed to Missouri
around 1890; Mary Jane, who married Charles W. Terry,
Kentucky; Lucinda, who married A.J. Bradford, Kentucky;
Rice, who married Katherine Nelson. Rice was married in
Linn Co. Missouri, and also served in the Civil War from
there, his brother, William, lived with him and remained
single; a dau, Elizabeth, who married Alexander Helm, and
Frances who married William Pennington and removed to
Kansas. Two other daughters, Sarah and Ellen, I
have no further information on. Children of John
Morris state in the 1880 census that he was born in
Kentucky (older children say Virginia). There is a very
strong family tradition that we are descended from Robert
Morris of Penn., financier of the Rev. War. This
family appears to have been very mobile, and thus is very
difficult to trace. I would greatly appreciate
hearing from anyone who may have a connection. I will share all information I have. Thank you! |
