Examination of Patience Daniel (born Marazion) and removal order from Gulval to Morvah



Background Information on
Patience Daniel

Patience was baptised 17 August 1775 at St Hilary, the daughter of Matthew Daniel and Margaret Hackett who married on 13 October 1774 also at St Hilary. 
At some point the family moved to Plymouth for a short period of time, but when Patience was about 5 her mother died.  Her father then moved back to Morvah with Patience where her grandfather (also Matthew Daniel) lived.  At the age of 16 or 17 (late for this time period) Patience was bound as apprentice to Mary HARRY, tailor, of Morvah by her uncles, James and Thomas Daniel.
Her apprenticeship served, Patience moved to Gulval to carry out her trade. It was here at the age of 28 and a singlewoman that she became pregnant.  The child was to be born a bastard and The Examiners orderd her removal back to Morvah. 

Gulval was able to have Patience removed to Morvah as Settlement was gained in various ways -

By birth in a parish
By various rent and rate qualifications
Being apprenticed to a parishoner
By serving a year in service in a parish.

These examinations took place before two Justices of the Peace and can contain a wealth of information such as deatils of -

Birth
Marital status
Occupation
Movements from place to place
