REG MOULD’S RESEARCH PAPERS

Dr George Gore Mould

INTRODUCTION

The compilation of this record is dedicated to the younger members of a West Monaro Pioneer family. With it goes a kindly challenge that in order to preserve our ties of kinship we each should endeavor to know better, and to be better known by all other of our widely dispersed cousins.

George Yonge Mould, born Plymouth 14th Feb. 1817, uprooting himself from his family's Royal Navy background studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin, and the University of King James the Sixth, Edinburgh, whence he graduated as a physician on April 20th, 1837. On 26th September, 1839 George Yonge married Maria, daughter of London Solicitor, Richard Cranch, prior to 'their embarkation for Australia on the good ship "Rajah", which delivered them to Sydney town on 27th April, 1840.

Nothing more is known of the new settler’s activities until 11th Aug.1841 when their first child, George Gore Mould was born at Gilmour, Lake Bathurst, Tarago, the home of Admiral John Gore to whom G.Y's father had been known back home in Devonshire.

Apparently G.Y. was gaining Colonial experience from John Gore because 4 ½ years later on 5th Feb. 1846 a second son, Frederick John was born "near Snowy River" according to the Baptismal record; around that period John Gore was the occupier of GEEKLE run which extended from the confluence of the Eucumbene and Snowy Rivers to Hill Top, HE of Jindabyne. Two and a half years later, 4th Sept. 1848,.a daughter Elizabeth (Bessie), was born at "Bullumbalong", following which the growing family again wafted into oblivion for a further 41/2 years until true to form, it was left to young

William Richard on 4th March, 1853 to cause a pronouncement that his parents abode was "Buckenderry". On adjoining Middlingbank country G.Y. established his Boconnoc home where at last the family settled and despite the inundation of the old home- site by the waters of Lake Eucumbene 110 years later, families Mould still reside on the adjacent uplands overlooking the top water-line.

Maria passed away in July, 1867, and on Dec. 1Oth, 1870, George Yonge married Augusta Emily Thickness of Cambewarra, Shoalhaven district, who on her own after the Doctor's death in Jan, 1883, courageously and capably continued her care and upbringing of their six young daughters:- Blanche, Nina, Edi, Ella, Ida and Core whose story will come from the much more able hands of Ella's son, Glen Hall.
