Y-DNA (37  +  6 additional markers) database of people of noble descent in Volhynia (the former Volhynian Gubernia in the Empire of Russia. The database contains currently the following surnames : Mozarowski (and variants), Niewmierzycki (and variants).

 

Mutation rates in markers marked with pink background are larger (0.003 to 0.005), and those marked with violet background are extremely large (above 0.005) compared with an average mutation rate (which is something like 0.0024). However, in the so-called genetic calculator one can also use different mutation rates in each of the marker panels. Estimated more precisely by the FTDNA Co., the average mutation rates are as follows : 0.00399 (markers 1 – 12), 0.00481 (markers 13 – 25), and 0.00748 (markers 26 - 37), respectively (http://www.mymcgee.com/tools/yutility.html#MutationRate) . And this is also a clear evidence for this that the markers 26 – 37 are most important in genetic genealogy. When comparing the markers 1 –25 one can only SUSPECT that the two tested males might be related by blood if their markers are matching. By ALL MEANS one needs to check the markers 26 – 37, and especially the fast mutating markers like CDYa, CDYb and DYS 570, to be absolutely CERTAIN that, IN FACT, he IS related by blood with another man. A lot of Y-DNA test results do appear on the Y-search.org database (http://www.ysearch.org/) when the two males are e.g. perfectly matching on their first 12 markers; a certain mismatch, however, small, can appear on the 2nd panel (markers 13 - 25); while a considerable mismatch on the 3rd panel (markers 26 – 37) is a clear evidence for this that they have not been related by blood at all (in historical times – 50-60 generations ago).

 

Thanks to this project I can verify real mutation rates, and these have been displayed on another web page, namely on Y-DNA in the Rurikid Dynasty.. The rates are calculated per the entire 37 markers haplotypes and per century. The time that passed by is a difference between the year in which the Y-DNA tests were performed, and the year when the common male ancestor (CMA) was born.

1/ The Grove (Groves) family (E1b1b1) comes from Hans Graff who was born in Baretswill, Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, in the year 1661. He belonged to the pious but persecuted sect of the Mennonites, against whom the sword of intolerance was unsheathed and it was to escape the destruction that seemed to threaten them in western Europe. He was one of the first pioneers of Lancaster county who settled in it as early as the year 1717. Hans was descended from : Marx Graff (his father, b. at Baretswill ab. 1639), Hans Jagli Or Jakob Graff (his grandfather, b. at Baretswill in 1616), Hans Graff (his great grandfather, b. at Baretswill bef. 1590), and a Graff (his great great grandfather, who was born at Baretswill ab. the year 1565).

 

The Mennonites were also settled in the Kingdom of Poland near Gdansk/Danzig. After the 1st partition of Poland in the year 1772, the Mennonites emigrated from the then Prussia to Poland, and some of them were settled south of Kiev and Zhitomir in Ukraine. Most probably this is an explanation for the fact that Mr. Teodor Mozarowski is related by blood with descendants of Hans Graff. In the year 1803 Teodor Tymofiej Mozajski-Mozarowski wrote a paper to the Deputy Association of  the Nobles of Volhynia (this was one of departments in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia). In this paper he informed the authorities that “German colonists”, which were called “Germanczuk” (Hermanczuk, Hermanchuk), were trying to suggest their descent from the ancient M-M family. Most probably a bribe helped some of the Hermanczuks to become the Mozarowskis, or adoption of a Mennonite child occurred in the Mozarowski family.

 

 

  1. Value of 17 in the 3rd Marker (DYS19/394) seems to be typical for eastern and especially for western Slavic population, while the value of 15 in the same Marker seems to be rather more typical for the so-called Baltic Slavs. This is also found in Western Europe, and especially in the British Isles, which were invaded (and also inhabited) by the Vikings approx. 12-8 centuries ago (http://zincavage.org/R1A.htm). A considerable number of Slavs is believed to take part in these Viking expeditions.
  2. TMRCA Time to the Most Recently Common (male) Ancestor. Estimated by the so-called genetic calculator at 95 % certainty level. Includes real mutation rates in each of the genes separately. A time period (e.g. 1000 (years)) is calculated for a tested male and Adam Mozarowski.
