Some sources say William's parents were James and Jane (Eggleston)
Britton, and there was a brother, Peter. Serious question has been raised as
to James and Jane ever having sons named William or Peter. In "The History
of Woburn" (1868) no mention is made of their having children. No sources
before 1901 mention James and Jane having any children.
