Robert Hilliard Sharp

Robert Hilliard Sharp was the fifth child of Fate and Mattie Jane Sharp.  He was born on August 29, 1874 in Leake County, Mississippi.

On June 30, 1872 Hillie married Minnie Catherine Henry, called Dollie.  They were married in Zion, Leake County MS by John Marion Thomas, J.P. 

As a child, Hillie attended the Golden School House, near Horseshoe, in Leake County.

As an adult, in the early 1940s, he and William A. Ellis donated the land that Golden School had stood on, plus approximately 80 acres to the state of Mississippi, to be used as a state park.  The park was donated "In memory of the patrons, pupils, teachers and friends of the old Golden School and their descendents forever". 

Hillie and Dolly first lived in Edgewood, Texas, returning to Zion for six years.  In 1908 

they moved to Georgetown, MS, then to Newton MS, and in 1915 they started back to Vernon, TX.  Dollie died before reaching there, while visiting her family at Edgewood. 

During their marriage, Hillie and Dollie had 5 children, all born in Mississippi.

Hillie took a second wife in 1916.  He married Allie McDonald Ware, widow of his cousin Jeptha Ware, on December 7, 1916.in Gordon, Palo Pinto County, TX.
