Thomas Leonard Ware
Thomas Leonard Ware was the 5th child of Rev. Joseph Barksdale Ware and Margaret Elizabeth Calhoun. He was born on Sept. 3, 1851 in Lincoln County, GA. Thomas married Martha Ann Texas Cameron on Jan. 11, 1872 in Tallapoosa County, AL. They lived near Auburn, AL. |
Thomas died on Jan. 7, 1933 in Liberty
City, Tallapoosa, AL.
He was buried in Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, Liberty City,
Macon County, Alabama Grandson,
Julian Winston Ware, told the following story. At Thomas
Leonard's death the weather was too wet and cold for burial.
The family could not get a coffin, so they took some of the
ceiling boards from the entry hallway of their house to make a coffin.
They placed the body in the homemade coffin, and waited for better
weather for burial. The ceiling boards were never replaced.
