Lafayette Marshall Sharp

.

William "Will" Lockhart Sharp was the first child of Lafayette Marshall Sharp and Caroline "Callie" Brown.  He was born on November 13, 1857 in Waverly, Tallapoosa County, Alabama.

Will was only 3 when his mother Callie died, in 1861.  At about that same time, Alabama seceeded from the union, and Will's father Fate enlisted in the Confederate Army, knowing that he would have to go sooner or later.  Will and his brother John were cared for by their aunts, Mrs. Edmundson and Mrs. Parham, in Waverly.

When Fate married Mattie Jane Ware in 1864, Will and John once again had a mother.  Mattie and the boys stayed with Fate's mother in Good Hope, MS until the end of the war.

Once the war was over, Will and his family moved back to Alabama for a short time, and then again returned to Mississippi, living in both Leake and Scott counties at different times over the years.

On December 20, 1879 Will married Elizabeth "Bettie" Lang. They were married in Scott County by W. A. Welch, J.P.

Will and Bettie lived most of their lives in Scott County.  They had 9 children.

Bettie died in 1917, while Will lived until 1948.  They are buried together at Damascus Church, in Sebastopol, MS.
