John and Mary (Davis) COFFIN
From "Genealogy of Northern New York" (1910) by William Richard Cutter:
In tracing the Coffin line, Cutter shows the following line:
1. Tristram Coffin (b. ~1605) & Dionis Stevens
2. Peter Coffin (b. ~1631) & Abigail Starbuck
3. Jethro Coffin (b. 1663) & Mary Gardner
4. John Coffin (b. 1694) & Lydia Gardner
5. John Coffin (b. ~1720, removed to Fishkill, NY ~1740) & Mary Davis
6. Edward Coffin (b. 1762 in Fishkill, NY) & Sibyl
6. Isaac Coffin
6. John Coffin
The following is from "The Coffin Family", edited by Louis Coffin, 1962.

Carol J. Hayward (submission number 83354-0710100221205) and Therese Koehler (submission number 915204-0626100212202) also show this connection in their pedigree resource files available at familysearch.org. Therese also shows this line in Rootsweb Worldconnect here. She also shows that Edward and Sibyl were married around 1790, but the 1790 census shows Edward with 4 males under 16 years of age, presumably his children. Cutter's shows his firstborn Isaac to have been born in 1784.
Ross B. Kenzie, in his descendants of Thomas Gardner, lists John Jr. and Peter (1758 - 1824) as the children of John and Mary Coffin, but does not mention the other children.
There is some very interesting information (linked here), from Volume XII, Number 4, Nov 1996 edition of Coffin Family Newsletter, posted to Rootsweb WorldConnect by Gary Silverstein. It appears to be well researched information, showing that John Coffin was born 14 Aug 1727 and married Mary Davis 16 Mar 1751/52. In 1761 John Coffin moved from Nantucket to Barrington, Nova Scotia, having already had 5 children. He had a son Tristram on 3 Jun 1762 in Nova Scotia. Different entries in the International Genealogical Index on familysearch.org show a son born to John and Mary Coffin on 3 Jun 1762 named "Tristram Coffin", "Tristram Edward Coffin", "Tristram OR Edward Coffin", and being born either in Barrington, Nova Scotia, Nantucket, MA or Fishkill, NY. So the question remains, if this is our Edward Coffin, where was he born, and/or how and when did he get from Barrington, Nova Scotia to Fishkill, NY?
