Sarah Ann (Holland) Falls

Sarah Ann (Holland) Falls

Sarah Ann Holland was the daughter of Mary Ann Holland. She was raised by Solomon Drain after Mary Ann and Solomon married. I suspect that Sarah was the illegitimate daughter of the two because of a deposition that Solomon gave when he applied for the Civil War pension of his son, Thomas, after Thomas' death in 1864. In that deposition Solomon names all of his children, including Sarah, whom he states "was born before marriage". Solomon and Mary Ann were married 16 Jun 1840. Sarah was born 14 Oct 1839. I have found no other records that indicate who, other than Solomon, Sarah's father could have been, nor has any evidence been found that Mary Ann had been married before she married Solomon Drain. And it doesn't appear that Solomon ever officially adopted Sarah since no adoption records have been found to indicate such. When Sarah married Madison Falls in 1855 she gave her surname as Holland.
