  • RESIDENCE: of Bristol Parish, Charles now Prince George Co. VA
  • BIRTH: 1642
  • DEATH: abt 1721-1725, Virginia

Father: Robert of Charles City COLEMAN "the Immigrant"

Family 1 :

Notes

"In December, 1688, John Coleman, "the orphan of Robert Coleman, Chose his brother, Robert Coleman to be his guardian. Robert Coleman, Jr. is not listed in the Prince George County Quit Rent Rolls of 1704, although John Coleman, Francis Coleman, George Coleman, and William Coleman, Jr. are so listed. Yet, an entry in Prince George County Deeds for October 4, 1721 (Page 493) described 10 5 VLP, 435. 11 6 VLP, 286. 12 Ibid., 447. 13 Chas. City CO, 687-95, p. 180.

By entries at Pages 5, 6, and 11 in the Bristol Parish Vestry and Register Book, we see that on September 17, 1721, William Tucker stated that Robert Coleman "Iys at his house in a very weak, helpless condition & has been so these six months past which proves very changeable & troublesome to the S'd Tucker, tis ordrd that Wm. Tucker take care of the fores'd Robert Coleman & find him such necessities as is convenient and at the laying of the next Levie, the S'd Tucker to bring his account to the Vestry & what is thought just to be allowed from the P'rsh." Significantly, it was further ordered that the Church Wardens inquire how the aforesaid Robert Coleman "gave his estate to Robert Tucker Sr., and upon what terms." Surely, this was the same Robert Tucker mentioned thirty-two years previously, back in September, 1689, when Robert Tucker was Administrator for the Estate of Robert Coleman senior. Unfortunately, the Bristol Parish Register contains no further report from the Church Wardens, so the reason for giving the estate to Robert Tucker is left clouded in mystery. We do find, however, at Pages 7 and 11 of the Register, that William Tucker was paid 400 pounds of tobacco for keeping Robert Coleman three months, and on another occasion (for which no date is shown) Joseph Tucker was allowed 1400 pound tobacco "on account of Robert Coleman." Thereafter, the Register mentions no further allowance for the benefit of Robert Coleman. No doubt he died, relieving the Parish of further necessity of supporting him."

Mary PEGRAM

ABT 1724 - AFT 1755

ID Number: I66361

  • RESIDENCE: Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1724, York Co. Virginia
  • DEATH: AFT 1755
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1615] [S2140]
Father: Daniel PEGRAM Sr.
Mother: Sarah HUNT

Family 1 : William (Rives) REEVES
  1.  Thomas Henry REEVES
  2.  Robert (Rives) REEVES
  3. +Lazarus REEVES

Notes

Father: Daniel PEGRAM b: 1689 in Virginia, Williamsburg; Mother: Sarah HUNT b: ABT. 1700. The book "Relics of the Rives" by James Rives Childs includes the following:

"It has been stated that William Rives married a Miss Pegram, and to this I am disposed to give some credence on the strength of the unusual authentic testimony preserved by his descendants of the family relationships, and which whenever tested has disclosed none of the customary chaff of the untrustworthy tradition."

Dr. Simmons included the following addition comments about William Rives and Mary Pegram:

"Records in Amelia County show William Rives patented some land. When he sold the land his wife signed with him, and her given name was Mary . In the 1782 personalty tax list of Dinwiddie County the only titheable of William Rives was a man by the name of Thomas Parham. In Hughes' book on Dinwiddie County, Thomas Parham is listed in the records of a doctor in Dinwiddie, as a son-in-law of E. Pegram. This was in the 1780s. Edward Pegram married Ann Harper Parham, after his first wife, Mary Lyle, died. Actually Thomas Parham was not a son-in-law of E. Pegram, but was the son of Edward's wife, who had previously been married to a Parham . This is additional information of the relationship between William Rives and the Pegram family."

Was this Mary Pegram the daughter of Daniel? The evidence indicates that she was. There was simply no other Mary Pegram of record that would have been old enough to have had children in the 1740s. This fact places her in the same age bracket as Daniel and Edward, her brothers, sons of Daniel...

Based on the foregoing, it appears that Mary Pegram, the daughter of Daniel, married William Rives, and lived in the Dinwiddie-Amelia County area, as did her brother Edward, and her brother Daniel. It is also likely, that her brother George and sister Sarah lived there."
