The Bonnie House o' Airlie

It fell on a day,
and a bonnie simmer day,
When green grew aits and barley,
That there fell out a great dispute
Between Argyll and Airlie.

Argyll has raised an hunder men,
An hunder harness'd rarely,
And he 's awa' by the back of Dunkell,
To plunder the castle of Airlie.

Lady Ogilvie looks o'er her bower-window,
And O but she looks warely!
And there she spied the great Argyll,
Come to plunder the bonnie house of Airlie.

'Come down, come down, my Lady Ogilvie,
Come down and kiss me fairly:'
'O I winna kiss the fause Argyll,
If he shouldna leave a standing stane in Airlie.'

He hath taken her by the left shoulder,
Says, 'Dame, where lies thy dowry?'
'O it 's east and west yon wan water side,
And it 's down by the banks of the Airlie.'

They hae sought it up, they hae sought it down,
They hae sought it maist severely,
Till they fand it in the fair plum-tree
That shines on the bowling-green of Airlie.

He hath taken her by the middle sae small,
And O but she grat sairly!
And laid her down by the bonnie burn-side,
Til they plunder'd the castle of Airlie.

'Gif my gude lord war here this night,
As he is with King Charlie,
Neither you, nor ony ither Scottish lord,
Durst avow to the plundering of Airlie.

'Gif my gude lord war now at hame,
As he is with his king,
There durst nae a Campbell in a' Argyll
Set fit on Airlie green.

'Then bonnie sons I have borne unto him,
The eleventh ne'er saw his daddy;
But though I had an hunder mair,
I'd gie them a' to King Charlie!'

-Lord Ogilvie's Revenge -

Oh! Airly's tower aood braid and
ftrong but Airly's hoofe lies low and gude
Lord Ogilvie's fworn vengence on faufe Argyll his foe.

He has fworn by the foul ohf his dead ladye,
of his ladye and babe unborn,
that the wrymouth Cambell's black,
black deed sall avenged be e'er the morn.

He has left the hall o' his chief Montrofe,
he has ta'en five hunder men. and
with the fpeed thro the nicht
he has rade awa' far doon by the Ochil glen.

Oh! there was dule and there was was
wae amang them that in Ochil were biding
wae when they kent wha they feared
to ken that the Ogilvie's were riding.

Dood by the brae o' Dolours land
hard by the burn o' Gryfe the caftle wa' o'
Gloom ftood its lane and nane to fend relief.

"Now yield ye, yield ye,
faufe Argyll "or by my blackened hearth ftane "on
every peak o' the Ochil hills
"sall lie a Cambell flain.

"And the wail o' mony a widowed wife
sall curfe thier chieftain fairly while
the flames o' the hie hie caftle o' Gloom.

" Sall bleeze fiercer far than Airly"

They have fired the bonny ftooks o' corn
they have reared them againft the
wa" and fune the black heart o' the faufe
Argyll matched his blackened caftle wa'.

The flames bleezed
hie o'er the Wrymouths keep
But Lord Ogilvie rade alane
and the thocht o' his bonny
Dead lady had turned his heart to ftane.

Scotland The Brave

Hark when the night is falling
Hear! hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling,
Down thro' the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits
Of the old Highland men.

Chorus:

Towering in gallant fame,
Scotland my mountain hame,
High may your proud standards
Gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavour,
Land of the shining river,
Land of my heart for ever,
Scotland the brave.

High in the misty Highlands,
Out by the purple islands,
Brave are the hearts that beat
Beneath Scottish skies.
Wild are the winds to meet you,
Staunch are the friends that greet you,
Kind as the love that shines
From fair maiden's eyes.

Chorus:

Far off in sunlit places,
Sad are the Scottish faces,
Yearning to feel the kiss
Of sweet Scottish rain.
Where tropic skies are beaming,
Love sets the heart a-dreaming,
Longing and dreaming
For the homeland again.

Chorus:

Towering in gallant fame,
Scotland my mountain hame,
High may your proud standards
Gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavour,
Land of the shining river,
Land of my heart for ever,
Scotland the brave.
