        HISTORY

The first settlers of North Stonington were Ezekiel Main and Jeremiah Burch, who settled in the areas of the present village of Clarks Falls and the Shunuc River in 1667.

After the end of the Indian War of 1676 the government gave away large parcels of land in the northern part of Stonington, and the area gradually began to grow.  In 1717 a committee was formed to determine a dividing line between the towns of Stonington and North Stonington, but it was 90 years before they could come to an agreement, and the town was not incorporated until 1807.
