1. James MORRISON was born about 1787 in Northern Ireland.

    The Morrisons immigrated from Scotland to Ireland, England and America - and all originated in Scotland centuries ago, but the spelling has varied some - such as: Moor, Morson and Morris. The Morrison origin was Scots-Irish descent with preponderance of Scots blood.
    From the twelfth to the beginning of the sixteenth century the name of Morrison was fuly settled upon. It was spelled with one "r" (Morison) up to about 1800 - as found in the name of one ancestor, Samuel Eliot Morison. He was a Harvard scholard, a writer, and a sailor of the "Ocean Sea". After 1800 the spelling of the name became Morrison.
    About 1715 one ancestor, Andrew Morrison, had taken part in "The Rising of '15" in the Highlands. He came over from Aberdeenshire, Scotland and settled in Northern Ireland - in Tyrone County and married a Miss Hamilton.
    James Morrison married Mary (maiden name unknown) a Scot's woman. She was born in County Down, Northern Ireland. They came to America in 1852. Their son, Robert Morrison, was born December 18, 1836 in County Down, Ireland, about 12 miles from Belfast and 1 mile from Bangor on the Irish Sea. He came to America with his parents in 1852 when he was approximately 15 1/2 years old. They came to Clifty Township, Bartholomew County, not far from Columbus, Indiana. They first lived in Howcreek Township near Rugby.
