"On March 18, 1854, the board summarily declared vacant the office
of sheriff, because Thomas L. Webb, the sheriff-elect, would not give $5,000
bail in addition to his official bonds. The coroner was notified
to assume the office, discharge its duties and to furnish additional bonds
for $7,000. Under this order, John Elder, the coroner, qualified
on March 29, 1854. Congressional Township 3, N.R. 12 E. (Perry),
was ordered to be organized April 7, 1854, for the purpose of taking charge
of school lands. On September 7, ditches 27 to 36, were authorized
as well as the cleaning out of a natural water course. William Noel
succeeded to the office of sheriff on December, 1854.

"In October, 1854, Coroner John Elder was acting sheriff, and in
1855 John Webb was clerk. On October 5 of the latter year, no less
than 444 men asked the court to be admitted as citizens of the United States.

"The election of November 10, 1854, resulted as follows:
Probate judge --S.W. St. John (D), 618, J.A. Kelley (W.), 789;
clerk--L.O. Simmons (D.), 608, John Webb (W.), 823;

"The vote cast in 1858 was 1,328 for Chester W. Norton, 881 for
Lorenzo Borden, and 67 for W.A. Prior, for sheriff;
1,356 for Samuel M. Chilcote, and 935 for Daniel Mercer, commissioner;
and 1,368 for John Elder, and 918 for Thomas S. Carman, coroner."

in Perrysburg with death date of 1836. He is buried along

Elder. There also is an Elizabeth and George Elder buried

Margie separately. Alexander died at age 26 it says, if Elizabeth
was his
wife, she may have remarried. This Elizabeth was born in 1866
so could not
have been Alexander's wife."

was of Scotch birth, and came to the United States at
an early day, settling in Pennsylvania, where his son John was born
in 1805.
The latter removed to Perrysburg, Ohio, in 1825,
was there married and spent the remainder of his life in agricultural
pursuits in Wood county. He was a prominent and influential
Republican..."

Captain [David] Wilkison states that he first came to the Maumee
in the latter part of May, 1815,
on the Schooner Black Snake, of about 25 tons. He was then about
15 years of age, and
was a hand on the Vessel, his father and his uncle (Jacob Wilkison)
being the owners,
and the latter the Master. She sailed from Cleveland, her load being
chiefly immigrant families
and their effects. Part of these were landed at the River Raisin,
and part at Fort Meigs...."
...
Between the years 1818 and 1828 he was Master at different times
of the Schooners
Black Snake, Pilot, Saucy Jane, Prudent, Superior and Guerriere.
In 1828, he and John Hollister built at Swan Creek (now Toledo)
the Schooner Eagle, of 60 tons.
That year he moved to Perrysburg, and took
command of the Schooner Eagle, and sailed her until the Steamboat
Commodore Perry came out in 1835, when he took command of her."
