"Melancholy Accident."
" On Tuesday, 25th ult., our old friend Josiah Miller and
his family were involved in mourning by the sad intelligence that his step-son,
Samuel Elder, had been killed on the Chicago and Cincinnati Railroad.
From what we can learn, the accident occurred to the deceased whilst on
the roof a car, which passing under a bridge, unperceived by him, brought
his head in contact therewith, from the effects, of which he died in fifteen
minutes after. The body was brought to this place for interment,
and on the 28th ult., the funeral services were performed in the M.E. Church,
by the Rev. J.A. Shannon. A large concourse of citizens evinced their
sympathy with the bereaved family, by rendering the last mournful tribute
to the departed friend. He leaves a wife and two children to deplore his
loss.
Mr. Elder, formerly, was well-known as an employee of the
Southern Michigan, and also of the Wabash Railroads."
