NUGENTS HOUSE AT ST MARTIN'S PREY TO FLAMES
The two and a half story farm house of Patrick H. Nugent at St Martin's was burned to the ground
yesterday morning according to a message received by M.R. Dolan, 344 Haymarket Square.
It was an old building in which Mr and Mrs Nugent had spent their married life and in which in 1915
they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. There was no means of fighting the flames which
soon enveloped the whole building, but not before the kindly hands of neighbours had helped in the salvage
of a quite a lot of the furniture.
Mr and Mrs Nugent have not been particularly well of late and their daughter
Mrs C.H. Haines of Dorchester, has been staying with them. They are being cared for by neighbours who
have been particularly kind in their misfortune and who have a very high regard for the aged couple
who are so well known throughout the district. So far as is nknown, little insurance was carried.
