Born on 5 July 1823. Enlisted In Buncombe County 1 March 1862 at age 38.
Mustered in as 1st. Sergeant. Elected Captain on 15 May 1862.
Present or accounted for until wounded in the head at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 1 July 1863. Reported absent wounded until retired to the Invalid Corps on 11 April 1864.

Young, James Madison
Previously served as Sergeant in Company E, 1st Regiment NC Infantry (6 Months 1861). Appointed Captain of this Company 1 March 1862. Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia 29 August 1864 with a gunshot wound of the head. Returned to duty in September 1864, and present or accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, 9 April 1865.



                                       
Lieutenants

Boyd, Benjamin F.    2nd Lieutenant
Resided in Georgia. Appointed  3rd Lieutenant in this company 18 August 1863.
Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 1 November 1863. Present or accounted for until reported as a prisoner of war from September 1863. Through December 1864; however,  Records of the Federal Provost Marshal do not substantiate that report. Company muster roll dated January 1865 states that he was a paroled prisoner.  Paroled at Charlotte on 11 May 1865.

Burgin, John A.    1st Lieutenant
Previously served as Private in Company E , 1st Regiment NC Infantry (6 months, 1861).    Appointed 3rd Lieutenant in this company 1 March 1862, and promoted to 2nd lieutenant on
1 November 1862. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 1 July 1863. 
Present or accounted for until killed at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 3 July 1863.

Coleman, Robert L.   1st Lieutenant
Previously served as Private in Company E , 1st Regiment NC Infantry (6 months, 1861). Appointed 1st Lieutenant in this company 1 March 1862, Present or accounted for until appointed Assistant Commissary of Substance and transferred to the 60th Regiment NC Troops on
1 September 1862.

Dickerson, William T.   1st Lieutenant
Previously served as Private in Company E , 1st Regiment NC Infantry (6 months, 1861).
Enlisted in this company on 29 April 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Sergeant.
Promoted to Commissary  Sergeant  and transferred to the Field and Staff  of this regiment on
9 August 1862. Appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 30 July 1863, and transferred back to this company. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 1 November 1863. Present or accounted for until captured  at Burgess' Mill Virginia, 27 October 1864,  Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington DC until transferred to Fort Delaware, Delaware 16 December 1864. 
Paroled at Fort Delaware and transferred for exchange on 7 March 1865.

Gash, Lucius W.     3rd Lieutenant
Resided in Buncombe County and enlisted in Wake County at age 17,
20 April 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private and promoted to Corporal on 1 July 1862.
Present or accounted for until wounded in the foot at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 1 July 1863.
Returned to duty in September 1863, and was promoted to Sergeant on 1 November 1863.  Appointed 3rd Lieutenant on 27 January  1864, Present or accounted for until wounded at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia 12 May 1864,   Died from wounds 14 May 1864.

Young, Samuel M.   3rd Lieutenant
Resided in Buncombe County  where he enlisted at age 24,  1 March 1862 for the war. 
Mustered in as Private and promoted to Sergeant on 9 August 1862.
Appointed 3rd Lieutenant 10 November 1862.
Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1 July 1863, Died in hospital at Gettysburg 7 July 1863.
