"a want of physical vigor and endurance in consequence of his advanced years." 
Roll of honor indicates he was wounded at Blount's Creek on 18 April 1863.

27 October 1864, Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred to Boulware's Wharf James River, Virginia where he was received 30 March 1865 for exchange.

Resided in Buncombe County where he enlisted at age 17, 1 March 1862, for the war.  Present or accounted for until wounded in the left arm at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. 1 July 1863. Reported absent wounded until released to the Invalid Corps  12 May 1864.

Resided in Buncombe County where he enlisted at age 26, 1 March 1862, for the war.  Present or accounted for until he deserted  on 26 July 1863,  Deserted to the enemy on 30 June 1864, Released 1 July 1864 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

Burns, Elisha P.    Private
Resided in Buncombe County where he enlisted at age 20, 1 March 1862, for the war.  Present or accounted for until he deserted  on 20 August 1863,  Returned to duty 10 November 1863. Hospitalized at Charlottesville, Virginia 25 December 1863, with "acute diarrhoea and typhoid fever." Died in Hospital at Charlottesville 20 January 1864, of "pneumonia".

Where he died 3 March 1865 of "inflammation of brain."

1 March 1862 for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania,
3 July 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until paroled and transferred for exchange on 
30 July 1863. Died in camp near Orange Court House, Virginia, 18 January 1864 of consumption"
