FAMILY HISTORY BOOK

Over many years the family researchers and historians have been finding and collecting information relating to the descendants and related members of the Nellis families from the Mohawk Valley. Various records were being assembled to find the descendants of the various lines.  The information being collected was becoming magnitudinous. In 1990, there was a move started to document the family holdings into a single history, and to publish it for all to see and use. The large task of collecting, checking, collating, and validating the information was begun.  Kathleen McLaughlin agreed to take charge of this task. It included considerable additional research to ensure the accuracy of the information being contributed for the History.  This took a while longer than initially anticipated, and the material was finally brought to a ready for publishing in 1997.  The amount of information was also much greater than was originally estimated, and it was agreed to publish the family history in 2 volumes.
Volume 1 came in at just over 1000 pages and covers the initial history and the first  eight generations of the Nellis family.  Volume 2 contains over 1100 pages and covers the ninth to twelfth generations.  Both books are hardcover and were published by the Nellis Family Association and Herkimer County Historical Society. Volume 1 was printed by Genealogy Publishing Service. Volumer II was printed by Walsworth Publishing Company. Volume II was shipped in July 2004 to the persons who had received Volume I of the book.  A second order was placed with the printer of Volume  II  because of an under printing of during the first printing. There are a few sets of both volumes of the book that are available. Contact Jay Nellis if you are interested in obtaining a set. The price in $75 plus $12  for shipping and handling.
