KIMBALL FAMILY HISTORY (Direct Line Only)

 

According to The History of the Kimball Family by Leonard Allen Morrison, Richard Kemball came to Massachusetts in 1634 on the ship "Elizabeth" from Ipswich, England. On board were his wife, Ursula Scott, and her brother, Thomas Scott. They settled in a section of Watertown, which is present-day Cambridge, MA. They moved to Ipswich, MA in 1637. He died March 1676.

1. Richard KIMBALL. Born in 1623 in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England. Richard died in Wenham, Essex, MA on 26 May 1676, he was 54.

Richard married Mary COOLEY. Born on 22 Jun in Springfield, Hampden, Ma. She died 2 September 1672.

2. Samuel KIMBALL. Born in 1651 in Ipswich, MA. Samuel died on 3 Oct 1716, he was 65. He was an ensign in the militia. He was a surveyor in 1676, constable in 1677.

On 20 Sep 1676 when Samuel was 25, he married Mary WITT (WHITE), daughter of John WITT (1612-1675) and Sarah, in Lynn, Essex, MA. Born on 5 Mar 1659 in Lynn, Essex, MA.

3. Ebenezer KIMBALL. Born in 1690 in Wenham, Essex, Massachusetts. Ebenezer died in Hopkinton, Ma in 1769, he was 79. Occupation: yeoman, mason. He lived in Wenham MA, Beverly MA, and moved to Hopkinton in 1740.

On 9 Jun 1712 Ebenezer married Elizabeth CARR, daughter of Richard CARR & Dorothy BOYCE of Salisbury, MA, born 1691 in Salisbury, Essex, MA.

4. Boyce KIMBALL. Born on 18 Jun 1731 in Wenham, Essex, MA. Died 13 May 1802 in Shutesbury, Franklin, Mass.

On 4 Dec 1755, Boyce married Rebecca HAYWARD, daughter of Johathan HAYWARD (8 Apr 1699-24 Nov 1751) & Lydia ALBEE (1690-3 Oct 1776). Born on 9 Jun 1739 in Hopkinton, Middlesex, Ma. Rebecca died in Shutesbury, Franklin, MA on 23 Jul 1790, she was 51.

5. Richard KIMBALL. Born on 14 May 1775 in Milford, Worcester, MA. Richard died in Gouverneur, NY on 10 Apr 1837, he was 61.

Richard worked as a surveyor on the staff of the Gov. of Pennsylvania, covering Ohio. He was partly paid in government land grants. When his sons married, he gave each of them 40 acre parcels of land in Ohio as wedding presents.

In 1801, Richard married (1) Nancy BULLARD. Born on 19 Oct 1783 in Tryingham, Berkshire, MA. Nancy died on 13 Nov 1820, she was 37.

6. Hanibal Howard KIMBALL. Born on 25 Dec 1803 in Fairfield, Herkimer, NY. Hanibal Howard died in Columbus, OH on 23 Oct 1872, he was 68.

In 1837 when Hanibal Howard was 33, he married Adeline TALCOTT, daughter of Johnson TALCOTT (6 Sep 1778-13 Feb 1850) & Altamira COOLEY (15 Oct 1781-). Born on 8 Jul 1812 in Leyden Township, Lewis, NY. Adeline died in Columbus, OH on 10 May 1852, she was 39. She died during childbirth. Her children were sent to be raised by her mother, Altamira COOLEY TALCOTT.

7 i. Ellen Grace (1845-1911)

Hanibal Howard Kimball went to OH before his first marriage in 1837. He moved his wife, Adeline Talcott, from Talcottville, NY to Columbus, OH on E Town Street. Adeline died in this house of childbirth when Grace was six years old (about 1853). After Hanibal's 2nd marriage to Eliza Burgett Weaver (born Nov 1820 in Paris, OH, died 26 Dec 1895 Columbus, OH) in 1853, he built a brick house on the 40 acre plot.

The 1870 census shows Hanibal living in Ohio with this family, carriage servant and domestic servant. He declares his real estate to be valued at $20,000 and his personal estate valued at $10,000.

Walter Burgett (26 April 1856-?). Married Harriette Isabelle Whitney of Mansfield, OH on 20 Sep 1882. He worked as a dealer of photographic supplies in Columbus, OH.

Howard Hanibal (13 Aug 1859-?). Married Lulu Townley, born Mansfield, Ohio, May 4, 1862, daughter of Calvin Charles and Cephelia Ann (Bosworth) Townley. He was a wholesale shoe merchant in Kansas City, Mo.

7. Ellen Grace KIMBALL. Born on 2 Sep 1845 in Columbus, Franklin Co., NY. Ellen Grace died in Talcottville, NY in Jun 1911, she was 65.

Ellen Grace married William Pratt REED, son of Jonathan REED (1 May 1797-1 Sep 1852) & Elizabeth (Betsey) TEMPLE (16 May 1805-12 Mar 1856), in Columbus, OH. Born on 14 Feb 1839 in Shrewsbury, MA. William Pratt died in Columbus, Franklin Co., OH on 11 Nov 1880, he was 41. Occupation: Shoe manufacturer.

After her husband's death, she returned to Talcottville and had a 20 year lease on the house for the summers from Thomas Baker Jr. and his two surviving sisters. She took her daughters to Germany for the winters.

8. William Kimball REED. Born on 31 Jan 1869 in Columbus, OH. As an adult he lived in Kansas City, MO.

9. Elizabeth Adeline REED. Born on 11 May 1871 in Columbus, OH. Elizabeth Adeline died in Talcottville, NY in Jun 1903, she was 32.

On 26 Nov 1892 when Elizabeth Adeline was 21, she married Willard Hart Furbish, son of Henry Hart FURBISH (3 Jun 1835-12 Mar 1913) & Harriet A. ORDWAY (1838-31 Dec 1871), in Talcottville, NY. Born on 4 Mar 1862 in Portland, Cumberland, ME. Willard Hart died in Sandston, VA on 30 Apr 1933, he was 71.

10. Dorothy Mott REED. Born on 22 Sep 1874 in Columbus, OH. Dorothy Mott died in 1964, she was 89.

Graduated Smith College in 1895. Received MD from Johns Hopkins in 1900. Graduated 5th in her class of 43. She was one of the first female doctors to graduate. Discovered cause of Hodkin's Disease and the cell is named the Dorothy Reed Cell.
