My Legacy of Faith Hope and
Love
The
Lord had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's
household and go to a land I will show you. I will make you a great nation and
I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
Genesis 12: 1&2
And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three and the greatest of
these is LOVE. I Corinthians 13:13
A Hidden
Wealth more precious than silver or gold is the legacy of men and women who had
a great belief God. These men and women hoped and dreamed of a better way of
life for their families and put forth extreme physical and mental effort to
realize their dreams. The early pioneers who left all that
was familiar to them and traveled long distances into unknown
territories endured many hardships to brave the unknown. Many of my ancestors
were farmers and homemakers, but some of them were doctors, preachers and
businessmen. Yet, I like to believe one thing they all had in common was their
great faith in God.
As I
think about the stories told to me over the years of my ancestors, I can
visualize the people and the places they lived and worked. I can sense the hope
they had of their dreams coming true. Because I know that all the research in
the world can't tell me everything I want to know about my ancestors, I get
this special feeling of joy and peace to think I might one day be able to see
them.
I pray
for my children and grandchildren and as I pray for these generations that are
yet to come, I have a feeling my ancestors prayed for me too. These people and
their hopes and dreams have become real to me. Just as I love them our Heavenly
Father loves them for He gave His only Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
so that by the grace of God through faith in Jesus, we might have eternal life.
My ancestors worked hard to give me this legacy-----an abiding faith in God,
the hope in life itself and LOVE, the greatest of these three! Holy, righteous,
heavenly Father, help me to do the same.
