He was a tobacconist for his entire career, retiring as Vice President of the Hail and Cotton Tobacco Company. He also farmed.
After graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in civil engineering in 1943, he served in World War II as a sergeant in Army Intelligence in the Philippines and the U.S. occupation of Japan. He also was a magistrate in Montgomery County.

Andrew graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville, Tennessee and thereafter enlisted in the United States Army whereby he received an honorable discharge. He was a very proud alumnus of Hampton Institute (presently known as Hampton University) in Hampton, Virginia. He entered Hampton Institute and graduated in the field of trade division (bricklayer and masonry) in 1950.
He was a self-employed contractor in the field of bricklaying and masonry from the 1950�s through the 1970�s. He was very proud of being selected as one of the contractors hired to erect the on-post housing for the soldiers and families of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
After retiring as a contractor, he was employed by the Department of the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the Outpatient Medical Records Branch. He retired in 1986. He was a devoted member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksville, Tennessee wherein he served as a deacon for 30 plus years. He has served as a member of the male chorus and the Usher Board. In 1992, he was honored with a certificate of membership for 50 years of faithful service. He, along with other members of the church, diligently visited the General Care Nursing Home in Clarksville, Tennessee, for monthly prayer services and fellowship. He devotedly visited the sick and shut-in members at their homes. He helped them with their daily activities and entertained them with his witty and knowledgeable talks. He was a dedicated member of the State Brotherhood. He traveled monthly to local churches in Clarksville, Nashville, and other surrounding cities to fellowship through Bible studies and prayers. The District Brotherhood sponsored the "Meals on Wheels" program, of which he proudly participated for numerous years. He was recently elected by the State Brotherhood to serve as its treasurer for the year of 2006. He was an active member of The Most Worship Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F.& A.M. of Tennessee for 50 plus years. On Jan. 2, 2002 he was awarded a 25-year certificate for being a faithful member of the Warfield Lodge Number 44 F.& A.M. of Clarksville, Tennessee. He was also recognized for ten years of loyal devotion as Secretary of the Warfield Lodge No. 44. He was instrumental in writing the history of the Warfield Lodge.
