Extract from the Diamond Anniversary of St. Augustine Parish History 1863-1938:

Father Joseph, pastor took up a census, finding 740 families with 3800 souls. In 1892, he purchased 13 and one sixth
acres in Shaler Township for $290.00 per acre. The iron fence was erected for $583.63. An iron cross was erected for
$491.00. It had a gold-plated corpus. This was a gift from Mrs. Mary Regina Frauenheim...the total cost of the cemetery
was $3,788.00 exclusive of lawyer's fee of $124.31. Expenses on dedication were $95.85...

...it goes on to tell of the parade across the 43rd St. Bridge. More than three thousand people came in procession,
eighty horsemen, one hundred and sixty carriages. All came to witness the blessing of their last resting place.

You can read about the 43rd St. Bridge here: http://trfn.clpgh.org/lhs/index.shtml
