What we know about this branch of the family
The Shapiro family was trace to Gomel in Belarus where Shaje Shapiro and Henye Ardashnikoff raised a family of 5 or 6 children. They were born about 1865 and were married prior to 1883. Jacob and his father Shaje never came to the U.S.. Lavik and Yacha were twins and came to the U.S. in 1912 and 1913 respectively. Sime arrived in 1918 via Vladavostak-Yokohama-Seattle to Hoboken NJ due to the outbreak or WWI which closed the Atlantic to passenger vessels. During that trip Haya who was Jacob's daughter died on arrival in Seattle. David arrived in 1914 and was the only child who married in the U.S..
